  • Olympian Murray Rose dies

Aussie Olympic swimmer Murray Rose has died of cancer.

    http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...-1226327093265

Always sad to see a great aussie pass, Olympic gold medals back in 1956 and 1960 as well as a host of world records.
I can even remember him starring in a b-grade movie from the 60's "Ride The Wild Surf"

    RIP Murray.

No need to call him a twit - leukemia is a form of cancer.

Regardless, Murray Rose from the footage I've seen and interviews later in life came across as a true sportsman and a very humble man in what was an excellent era in Australian swimming.
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

As I was trying to point out to Winnie.

Mate, look up Leukemia in any of the thousand medical journals online, here's just one definition -- "The term leukemia refers to cancers of the white blood cells. Large numbers of abnormal white blood cells are produced in the bone marrow. These abnormal white cells crowd the bone marrow and flood the bloodstream, but they cannot perform their proper role of protecting the body against disease because they are defective. As leukemia progresses, the cancer interferes with the body's production of other types of blood cells, including red blood cells and platelets."

...you might want to get your facts right before you start abusing people !

              Vale Murray Rose..

I met Murray a couple of times as a kid as i did competitive swimming..

The first time was at a carnival at North Sydney Pool where he presented the medals to us after a race..As i'd been told what a sporting hero he was i was awe struck,& when he congratulated me,shook my hand, & asked what my name was all i could say was "Good Thanks"..

I'm still embarrassed when i remember the incident to this day & it happened in 1978..lol..

So that's where Effie (Mary Coustas) got that famous saying from (Greeks On The Roof) - good for you.

I reckon that's a good story and nothing to be embarrassed about. I have no doubt Murray Rose just smiled, he - like many top sports people would have met hundreds of kids and understood the apprehension and nervousness.
