Getting back to my traffic issue. Shouldn't a fine be issued only when roadwork is happening? Obey the sign? but what happens when traffic lights fail?

There are unsettling issues with our traffic laws, revenue raising and such. In Scandinavia traffic fines are proportional to income and here, our massive fines are a bagatelle to the rich but often devastating to middle Australia.
I don’t drive so not an expert on the subject but I guess the rules are whatever the sign says. We travel a lot in regional NSW roads as I have a lot of family still living there and you see a lot of these signs where there is no actual roadworks happening at the time but hubby just obeys the signs.

Not much to complain about today really.
Was the burger from the Quarterdeck? How good are they???

We only had Woolworths and an Aldi in the centre that i worked for many years until they renovated and opened a new section just on 2 years ago and they added a Coles then, it was funny because there wasn't a Coles within cooee of where we lived till then so i just used Woolies at our centre ( there are 5 Woolworths with in about 2-3 km or so of where i live ) and would pick up the odd thing from Aldi, there is no possible way i could do a full shop at an Aldi. I find myself shopping mostly at Coles now and duck into Woolworths for a few things i like that Coles don't stock.

You cant also beat a fresh feed of bream, a very underated fish taste wise, lends beautifully to just being baked with a bit of white wine or lends itself beautifully to Asian flavours, such a clean tasting flesh, i like keeping a couple that have either been caught off a surf beach or from some of the cleaner coastal estuaries.

When the Woolworths/ Cole website posts the half price items every Wednesday, my missus stocks up if any non-perishables or frozen items she needs are available.

She then loves to point out a item was "half price" when using it

Copy that, shopping at Aldi is a no brainer. And you're right, the amount of gauging that's going on atm is egregious. All put down to "cost of living" - bullshit! A custard tart in my local patisserie goes from $8 to $10, a 20% rise with inflation at what, 7%? And that seems to be everywhere.

              * Thanks for the sage advice King. Obey the sign. Do you not think that country copper might find something more useful to do than posting himself 5 kms out of town where nothing but a sign speaks of roadworks which are, in fact, not in progress. That's just filling a quota. Further on there were Roadworks going on, wouldn't he have been better waiting there? As it was, and unknown to me he followed me through the village thinking that I wouldn't slow, pulling me up just out of town. As it was, he had only the "roadworks" issue. I tried the schoolteacher authoritative tone on him without success. I love the way that they straight up warn you that the're wearing camera and recorder. Always loathed coppers.

One of my local Deli does lovely homemade , Moussaka, Pastitsio , Lasagna or vegetarian Lasagna , they were perfect for 2 people for a quick easy dinner and for years they were $12, suddenly the price jumped to $15 each , huge increase and when i was in there today one of the moussaka was labeled $ 17 , needless to say i haven't bought any of them since the price jumped from $12 to $ 15.

Me too, Aldi just doesn’t meet all my needs. It’s great for cleaning products and basics like foil, gladwrap, cooking oil, paracetamol, some frozen vege, cereal etc. But I couldn’t do a full shop there. I’ve recently switched to their spreadable butter as it’s cheaper and pretty much the same as the one at Woolies even down to the copycat packaging.

Same with pies at the bakery. Crazy increases. We also recently bought some takeaway Chinese for a quick birthday dinner and the main meals had gone up about 20% each. When we bought from a popular Turkish place in April it was even worse. And another way they get you is to reduce the size of the packet and charge the same or increased price - shrinkflation. The pies at the bakery have gone up but I swear they’ve also shrunk.

Lol…I’m a bit of a budget wiz too so can relate. I wouldn’t say that I mention everything is half price or discounted when I use it but I do like to get a good deal.

I was buying the Aldi spray canola oil because it was so much cheaper than Woolies home brand one but found the Aldi one would always leak out of the bottom so i gave up buying it after a while. They also sold a small jar of Sauerkraut that i like to put on my smoked frankfurts if i make hot dogs while watching an afternoon game of football on TV , they replaced it with another brand in a bigger size which wasn't as nice so i ended up not finishing the jar, after an long absence they got my favourite back in late last year but it has vanished again. Also the local Aldi always looks like a hurricane has been through the place, empty boxes strewn across empty shelves so i basically give it a big miss now.

That’s one of the things I do hate about Aldi - the messy stores, and the old fashioned long queues. But I guess that’s how they keep their costs lower.

You may know me by now King as devil may care. Bring it on copper. But I digress, folks like yourself, handy to the Valley, should be aware that there's a nark down there who sweats on a technicality - a sign and not an illuminated one or otherwise prominent one. Driving, one can see that there is no work going on. I had nil points. First he had me for 80 in a 40 but, presumably, after checking everything and after my lecturing, he reduced it to 10 over. How can you do that? I've a mind to represent myself ( i've had some success in the past) but magistrates courts are police courts, no hope.

You should defer to your wife, Aldi is good quality and outrageously less expensive. That's real Capitalism for ya, not the version that plays out here with Privatisation and Corporate collusion giving us, for years now, the most expensive groceries in the world.
