  • The Atlanta Braves are on the verge of clinching the National League East Division title after a 10-inning, 7-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Braves have opened up a 16-game gap between themselves and the Phillies in the National League East Division with 17 regular-season games to play.

    Atlanta Braves ( 95-50 ) . 655 - Philadelphia Phillies (79-66) . 545

Matt Olson's (below left) 51st home run this season has tied Andruw Jones Atlanta Braves single-season record from 2005.

Ronald Acuna Jr (below right) needs only 3 more home runs to join the exclusive 40 - 40 club - 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a season - has 65 stolen bases.

    Only 4 members

    • Alex Rodriguez, 1998, 42 home runs, 46 stolen bases

    • Ho hum.......the real news is that the Paddington Colts U/17 won their Grand Final at Leichhardt Oval beating Manly Brothers 32-6. The side has half a dozen kids in Roosters junior development and there are some good prospects among them though I don't see any first graders there atm.

Sadly, there is not a Paddo boy among them. Most are from Easts old territory - Coogee and Maroubra (the After Party was at Matraville) and attend Marcellin College or Champagnat at Pagewood (Victor's alma mater). The grandson and his mate go to Cranbrook. The Paddo Colts that I knew are are thing of the past, merely a label now. Some of the old guys from yesteryear belted out the club song in the sheds post game as the boys looked on uncomprehendingly. No one suggested beers, beers, beers at the United Services up on Oxford Street (now the Paddington Inn) nor would there be the post win yelling and bonhomie in the snooker room a few doors away - now a rip off frock shop.

Ah, the modern world and the march of time. There was a past when American sport, apart from Muhammad Ali, was a distant exotic thing and, mostly, a big yawn in Oz, now we got the Atlanta Braves FFS.

            • Ronald Acuna Jr becomes the 5th player in MLB history to join the 40-40 club hitting his 40th home run for the season vs Washington Nationals in the Atlanta Braves 9 -6 win

Actually one can say he is the first member of the 40-60 club - 40 home runs and 68 stolen bases - can he get to 70 stolen bases

                • Jeezus….enough already. Is the season over yet? A prime example of ramming stuff down readers’ throats that you complain about elsewhere. You’re interested, no one else is. Then again, the thread is an open forum, to each his own. It’s wrong to shut down what one personally sees as being unpleasant. Good on Ritchie Akuna, who woulda thought?

                  • 100's of millions are interested in Baseball as it's the 8th most popular sport in the world.

We being part owners take great interest in the fortunes of the Atlanta Braves

What Ronald Acuna Jr achieved yesterday is a first in MLB History which dates back to 1876. - 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases.

3 more games of the regular season to go - 162 game regular season.

The hardest sporting competition in the world to win is the World Series in MLB.

12 team post season - 6 from each league - American League and National League

                    • Geez KISS really rocked it in the AFL Grand Final today, totally enjoyable set from a group that many people said that way past their prime at 75 years of age and for once the actual Grand final lived up to pre game entertainment also.

I was skeptical Horrie, but it was a great performance. It was a really close game too but I hate Collingwood and was barracking for the Lions.

                            • I don't get the Collingwood hate. Like the Souffs thing it's a bandwagon phenomenon and just the same, it gets bums on seats so there you go.

My AFL side is Geelong but I only really watch the GF which, yesterday, was a very thrilling game that could have gone either way like our epic V Melbourne. What an impressive effort that was on reflection. Saved our season. I don't have a US Baseball fave team but something, I dunno what, has given me a deepish aversion to the Atlanta Braves. Maybe it's the slavery thing?

Never dug Kiss at all. All of that Glam/Art School crap eluded me and it couldn't hold a candle to real Rock'n'Roll anyway - The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, George Thorogood, Johnny and Edgar Winter, ZZ Top etc. I find our MOR music threads unremittingly boring.
