[QUOTE=A Country Member;
Maybe it proves the masses don't really care and it's time to consider the alternatives to the democratically elected system of government.
Instil our best and brightest into governance rather than the middle managers and give them time to enact change and a path forward instead of just being a quarry.
Aye to that Count. "Democracy" is rule by the rich. Money wins elections and nowadays, that means rule by Corporations which seemingly have no ethical rudders - climate boiling is a prime example. In the USA it is no stretch to say that its kind of "Democracy" is at a crisis point, a nation bitterly divided ideologically into red and blue to the point of near political paralysis and dominated by a Military/Industrial/Media/ Intelligence paradigm that offers little but endless conflict as the nation's Superpower hegemony dwindles (it has hitherto consumed 40% of the world's natural resources and, understandably, the Global South resents the fact that Whitey condemns that section of humanity to unremitting poverty. Accordingly, most of the brown world shows enormous enthusiasm for China's Belt and Road initiative and for its claim to be a model for the future welfare of populations. The "US", or its dominant military/industrial class, want an end that but does it any more have the power?
There is disarray in the American citizenry as they become increasingly irrelevant to both parties of capital neither of which appear to have the interests of the majority at heart. In Texas where, the majority have the arse out of their pants but don't vote, the Republicans dominate. Last week, at the height of the planet boiling heatwave, its polity removed the responsibility of business to provide shade to outdoor workers. Right wing mass media creates the atmosphere where things like that occur - the ordinary Joe voting against his/her own interests. No wonder that there are attacks on the Capitol by masses mostly confused but certainly resentful. In them we see an echo of Jax's "woke" obsession and the harm that it does as it is used by right wing media to divide and fragment a befuddled working class.
By contrast, China has, for millennia, been governed by the tenets of Confucianism to which the CCP is now heir. The lynchpin of their society is an administrative scholar class, the Mandarins, which in essence is the best and brightest of society as determined by a universal examination system. Historically, the vast peasant class was that to which the Dynasty owed responsibility. The Merchant class was the lowest in social status. Hansonistas don't rate. The befuddled and the ignorant get no say mercifully.Last edited by Paddo Colt 61; 07-29-2023, 03:16 PM.

[QUOTE=Jacks Fur Coat; Yeah, at the risk of slightly contradicting myself, i'm not a real fan of the minor parties per se.
No Jax, you're a self confessed Hanson fan but definitely not a fan of the Teals who have essentially condemned the Libs to the wilderness. Here you are, a Merrylands boy and RL supporter who admires a low brow bigot, presumably condones Robodebt, opposes a Voice and is witness to the sort of corruption that saw the end of Smoko, Roberts etc, etc.
Much like a large section of the American working class you allow right wing elitist media's faux patriotism and a deep resentment of "the other" to override what might be your better economic interests.

[QUOTE=mightyrooster; It was ism. Not sure about Salvo. I can understand people getting them confused based on their anti US postings, but they have two different personalities. Paddo is more direct and verbose while ACM is more abrupt and cynical.
Do anti US postings trouble you MR? I can see that, for someone like you, hope and optimism spring eternal for others around you and for the world. Despite the record, I think that you remain hopeful that the msm account of "important" issues is essentially correct, that it does try to tell truth and that despite its uninterrupted violent record, the US is essentially a force for good in an unstable world. You deny that of course, yet you never post criticism of the US and your very naive restatements of MSM/Intelligence propaganda re the "unprovoked" invasion indicates a basic acceptance of the US line. Even with the reality of "The Great Satan" tag staring you in the face, there is the flickering hope that US abominations of the past have been honest mistakes and, anyway, like most you find changing opinion problematic. It's called Cognitive Dissonance and I've discussed it elsewhere.
Like others, you don't want to think that the root cause was a US supported fascist coup aimed at degrading a Russian leadership that had resisted the rape of their country that began in the early nineties. Like others your inclination to peace, stability and order in all things, leads to a hasty and ill considered identification of the bad guy, the trouble maker, and, also like others, your guide to that is our MSM (if not I'd like to know what other sources you've researched or did it all come to you in a vision?).

Not going to go over this again. The US stick their nose where it doesn’t belong time and again. The US when it comes down to it really own cares about its own interests. We just go along for the ride. That doesn’t mean Russia is a pure little innocent victim without its own ambitions. Also, I am getting too old for it to be the primary thing I think about when I wake up every day, or to discuss in here in what seems to be an endless circular loop.

As much as he is a Merrylands RSL regular Jaxxx is not a Merrylands boy Jaxx is from the bush and as such Merrylands is the big smoke for him
His country roots and that simple life he would have led is probably a big part of his love of the right wing and also Pauline Hanson Try not to be too hard on him PC in some ways none of this is poor Jaxxxs fault

The great irony is that it was the ALP that was always going come unstuck because of the tension between its educated progressive wing and the blue collar base but as things have turned out it is the Libs that have imploded.
Looking at them now one sees an impotent, talentless rabble still taking casualties after that inglorious long time in government. The right wing monopoly media rode shotgun throughout that long period but the toppling of Turnbull by Murdoch, the embrace of Evangelists and the commitment to a right wing climate denial agenda so offended the well educated base that eventually it could tolerate no more and it turned on the Party leaving just the fascist rump as the main support. That is the section of the electorate that it now represents, the ill educated, intolerant, provincial, vulgar, petty bourgeoisie - the Sky audience, those now "worried" about the Voice and their grandchildren when they should worry about their effect on them.
Jax and the other congas are pretty typical of all that's left. The future is bleak.Last edited by Paddo Colt 61; 07-30-2023, 01:40 AM.
