You’re all in on what? Aren’t you Australian?
      I don’t think you get a say

      • Australia has always been controlled by a Right Wing power elite as has all white Settler nations. Here we have the evidence of a Coup against a progressive government to prove it. Likewise, with a few notable exceptions like "Nugget" Coombes, our bureaucracy has also been dominated by the right wing especially our security services. It is, therefore, most satisfying to see Paul Keating give those right wing "Ning Nongs" yet another bollocking. This clown Mike (plenty of fear but no arrests) Burgess has to go, he's embarrassing but there's no reason to thing that Right Wing Labor will pull the trigger. Imagine News Corps reaction?

I, too, am a little surprised at Voods. You'd think that the absolute rubbish that comes out of Trump's mouth would condemn him absolutely and finally. Imagine if anyone else of prominence had said that ripping babies from wombs at 9 months was legal, we'd still be talking about the asininity and their ignorance but not in his case.

Like our mob who don't seem to care about actual political party policies, large swathes of Americans appear to believe anything he says and that's gotta be the fault of the msm. The same msm that for short term political reasons got wholeheartedly behind Hitler in the 30s.

          • Trump is hilarious. At this point he seems to be some kind of sorcerer the way he manipulates reality. Funniest president ever.

Truthfully I prefer RFK Junior but I don't think he can win.

Hilarious, kind of, in a horrifying way. The problem is that he might again be to world's most powerful individual. What a contrast to Lincoln, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Carter and even Clinton - they were serious intellects with sound advisors. This guy's a lightweight writ large. He unilaterally declared Jerusalem Israeli territory based on some bible interpretation of his whacko fundamentalist supporters - his idea of resolving the conflict.

I have no opinion on US politics. To me it's a failed State. Kennedy's another wing nut - anti vax etc.

Remember I'm commenting on a choice between Biden and Trump.

RFK is not even close to a nut on any issue. Read up on what he really says. His campaign has largely involved him appearing in long-form discussions.

Im pretty sure you started a RFK thread previously.

Bookies are offering $23 about him winning the 2024 election. To put it in perspective Michelle Obama is $12, despite her stating she has no intentions to run in the election.

Ted Kennedy is best remembered for his:
                      a. driving.
                      b. underwater free-style.
                      c. brothers.
                      d. All of the above.

Most powerful country.... failed state... same thing

The good news with Trump (who's a loon IMO) is that the USA's a democracy so people aren't forced to submit to him.

Various dictatorships are killing masses of innocent people as we speak. One can only dream of punting them (or their statutory term in office expiring... because most have a habit of changing the law so that they can be around forever. JUST IMAGINE IF TRUMP OR BIDEN DID THAT!!!)

Love him or loathe him, the advantage of democracy is that people are allowed to form their own opinions about Trump and vote with their feet. Yes this includes a lot of poorly informed opinions (from both sides of the table - plus malicious BS) but the common folk should never be ignored.

The USA has the whole horizontal and vertical separation of power, so elections are more about the 'person' rather than the parties/politics. I get the theory behind this but I dunno if it's as useful as it's supposed to me.

IMO the USA is an extremely successful economic and arts/social powerhouse. It just is... it's a developed country with an economy twice the size of China's and GDP per capita that's roughly 8x that of China (think ~$80,000 per person rather than $10,000). Then there's the cultural influence. One can argue that 'the MSM' cons us but the reality is that the USA dominates film, music, drama and tech (including the internet) right now. Trump's a douche but the max we'll ever see of him is one more presidential term.

I don't think it's accurate to say that people are happy living in dictatorships where they're eating rats/crickets/scorpions...etc to survive and the average Joe has nothing like their ~$10k a year proportion of GDP per capita due to the state controlling everything.

Democracy has its flaws. However the world is not perfect! It's full of self-interested w@nkers no matter what form of government you have. IMO the best protection against these w@nkers is to have a public vote every 3 or 4 years where alternative leaders can and do form governments (and do regular clean-outs of the corrupt and / or wasteful shyte that their predecessors have done).

Heck I'm a progressive but I actually look forward to the conservatives one day forming a government in the ACT as I think 20+ years of Labor & the Greens has led to a lot of waste. IMO the ACT's overdue for a clean-out of unnecessary spending (and a roll-back of some stupid 'progressive' laws that make zero sense). IMO balance will always be important.

The one about Fauci? no but have heard a lot of discourse about it. Fauci hasn't sued RFK so most people believe the depiction of Fauci to be accurate.

                            • Interesting to see that RFK Jnr is likely to choose a NFL quarterback by the name of Aaron Rodgers as his VP running mate, This guy claims that “Sandy Hook shootings never happened … All those children never existed. They were all actors.” & the parents of the victims had been “all making it up.” He has also is a 9/11 denier.

Im old enough to remember when America had leaders that were the envy of the world. The last 8 years have been diabolical and what is unfolding over there at the moment- its like they just want to throw their democracy in the bin.
The flip side is it makes you realise how lucky we are to live in Australia!!
