  • At that level in the commercial media there are no ethics or talent for that matter. I love the way that they take collective offence when someone holds one of them to ridicule as Keating did with several of them at his press club appearance. Blokie Year 10 leavers trained up on the job.

You saved me the effort Andy. I just read it and was preparing to post.

A stirring piece indeed and so true re the hypocrisy but as I came to the end I wondered about who was the "we" in "an Australia we could be proud of". Most Australians, after generations of propaganda, are deeply wedded to the American "alliance" which they think is our "security" guarantee. Most know nothing about it nor do they intend to find out anything but the idea is fixed cognitively nonetheless. The majority just don't contemplate such things and even if they might, they see nothing wrong with our current situation. They're unaware and easily manipulated and that includes most Labor voters.

          • Good one Andy.

            Something to dwell on.

Around the mid-1800s humanity began to notice it doesn’t make sense for a small group of rich people to own everything and for everyone else to continually give that group labor, rent and expenses just to stay alive, and ever since then the media, the mainstream culture and the foreign policy of the ruling class have been intensely devoted to aggressively erasing this realization from humanity’s memory.

Who cares about that when what’s important is getting a story to outdo the other network?
yeah, don't know if his coke use contributed to his over-confidence but he made some bad choices. and yeah, the auerbach intervention didn't influence the final decision but it did show that the way the media operates is just as bad as the way the political class operates

              • The political class here is somethin' else. An ALP government that keeps on the Lib "Security" right wing nutters whom Keating calls ning nongs and is so frightened of Murdoch and the USA that it keeps sctum about Palestine or is too scared of offending the US to say just about anything at all outside of a joint statement with NZ and Canada. And willing now to increase "Defence" spending to 2.5% of GDP. Meanwhile we're the most isolated country on the planet and the logistics of any invasion are daunting to say the least, invaders can't live off the land. We're stuck in a treasure wasting paranoia constructed by our conservative elite from way back. It is political football and because of our right wing media it can't be reasonably discussed.

                  • US finds no evidence of Russian government involvement in Navalny's demise. We are being revved up and Putin is being demonised yet again.

And a $150m contribution to Ukraine - wtf? The landscaper who is doing work for me wants cash, says he's dirty on tax money being spent on Ukraine and the like. He has a point - anyone else?

How about that Andy? It means that, as usual, we are either being straight out lied to re China or misled by omission. The ALP (no need to mention the Libs) and our media are committing us to a future war with China (our biggest trading partner) while most of the Sheeple act as Sheeple do - not just uninformed but uninterested.

You've done well to post this, everyone should read the article. Apart from anything else, the Menadue site is a helpful counter to our mendacious MSM. The World Press Freedom Index 2024 has placed Oz media freedom in 39th place citing our "hyper concentration of media ownership".
