Thought I'd volunteer to help out at the booths with a bit of thyme on my hands at present. An interesting experience,
First thing is the resource disparity between the two campaigns with 'Yes' being very well funded by big business, corps etc. I was the only 'No' volunteer to about 8 'Yes' staffers at this one centre for the PM shift. I even ran out of flyers to hand out so was reduced to just a verbal spruik! At least I got a nice t-shirt. One guy shouted at me "We shouldn't need to even have this!!" I agree...but for different reasons than him I think. Overheard one Yes campaigner telling porkies to a voter about the Constitution so I interjected with "Thats rubbish", and was given a "Don't interrupt me!" smackdown. Say G'day if you see me around. I do love it when people bring their dogs to vote though, makes the day.
I was at Cabramatta yesterday so its a very high Vietnanese and Chinese ethnic background populace. On the one hand I sense that there are a lot of traditional Labor voters in this area, and may accordingly tend to the Yes vote. Conversely most (I find) of people with Asian background are "proudly Aussie" and don't like the idea of division by race within their country.
I think the $$ being invested in the Yes campaign will have some impact over the next week of voting. It's likely going to be closer than the current polls would tell you. But there is still that 'quiet' element of society who hate the corporate and celebrity push and deliberate lack of detail from the PM .
14/10 is shaping up to a big day.

I have actually postal voted as i'm working on the day , i actually postal vote just about every time now as i cannot stand the jostling from the different parties when you go to vote, my mind has already been made up so no one is going to change my mind one way or another minutes before i vote.
OT i see one artist that you like Perry Keyes is playing at the Camelot Lounge in Marrickville in November, i might have gone and had a listen but i'm away up the coast at the time.
