Well I think I have it mostly planned but I can be such an over planner I end up confusing myself. It’s changed so many times and about 4 days ago I got a sudden brain wave to flip the whole thing upside down and start in Scotland. So starting in Scotland, arrive in Glasgow, we’ll hire a car and self drive (well the other half will not me) for this part. Inverness, Isle of Skye, Fort William / Glencoe, Loch Lomond, Stirling, Edinburgh. We will then use the trains to get around England. Start up North in York and Yorkshire with day trips to Whitby and the Dales, head to Cambridge for a few days and finally about 6 days in London. I was originally going to have a few more places in England on the itinerary but decided to devote more time to Scotland as we will very likely never return there. The idea is that we will return to go to Ireland one day in the future and we can incorporate the west coast and other parts of England in that trip so places like Bath, Cornwall, the Cotswold, Liverpool, the Lakes District etc. Business class would be so good. I think sadly we’ll be in economy for our first long haul flight. It’s the only part I’m not looking forward to at all.Last edited by horrie hastings; 09-12-2023, 11:23 PM.

That sounds very organised and a great itinerary MR and i'm sure some things will change again before you start booking, it all very exciting. As i said i have a rough idea of place i want to go and that will most likely change again as i was day dreaming about one place i nixed off the trips rough draft while i was at work today, and will most likely add again. Definites are London and Brighton, Scotland and the Greek Islands, i had decided on Italy also and may well still do it but one of the places i nixed was Sitges in Spain mainly because i thought it may be a bit like some of the Greek Islands but i loved Sitges back in 2011 and want to see it again so it may be at the expense of Italy, we will see. Looking forward to spending time in Brighton, honestly i could just spend 3 months there and not budge. One of our friends there is Irish and if we think we can fit it in we will go to Ireland with him for a few days but it’s all sounds great.not highest on agenda now. . Better half is keen for Scotland as the last time visited was in the 80 s and for me was 1993. London has so much to do but thing we haven't done there before is a trip to Highclere castle where Downton Abbey was filmed and the better half is a big fan so it will be a must do, also ABBA's Voyage concert is high on the list.I keep hoping Jeff Lynne will announce some dates for concerts as for me it is a must do if it ever happens before i book things. Scotland is going to be fantastic and so looking forward to Greek Islands where we haven't been since 2000, the hardest thing is working out which islands. Thinking of having a few days in Singapore on the way back depending on who we fly with. Ahhh so much planning ahead and i'm sure it will change again but at least we have a rough idea of where we want to go, also we still have to work out for how long also.

London also, there’s just so much to do there. Highclere Castle would be a great day trip. We’re still weighing up Windsor Castle v Greenwich day trip but I think we’ll end up choosing Greenwich. I hope it all works out for you. I enjoy the planning but it can get frustrating at times when I have to make the hard decisions on what to leave out. I also hate the logistics side trying to work out the flow of the itinerary and how we get there etc. Anyway I better continue this discussion in the Travel thread from now on before I get in trouble.
And yes we will continue the discussions in the travel thread from now.

The one and only time i went to Windsor was in 1993 and Greenwich was in 2000 and apart from standing on the Meridian line i don't remember much about it but i would imagine there would be a lot more to do at the observatory now. A visit to Hampton court Palace is a must do, i always love going there, its roughly around 30 mins train trip from London.
