  • As a union man and a labor man...

I genuinely hope they jail Craig Thomson, Michael Williamson, his family, Kathy Jackson, and every other low life c&nt involved in ripping off the HSU members. Imprison every single one of the corrupt farkers at that union! To rip off members of your own union is in my view the lowest form of corruption I can think of. I thought the days of Norm Gallagher were gone. I guess some of his disciples are still around and need weeding out.

I have been a union member since I left school (TWA, CMFEU, BLF, CPSU) and firmly believe in the need for unions to protect entitlements and to bring about genuine wage increases. The last thing the uinion movement in this country needs is to give this type of corrupt ammunition to the union haters.

And before anyone goes off on a "all unions rip off their members", let me tell you up front, they do not! I have been a delegate in multiple unions I have never seen this kind of blatant corruption of the union movement since Gallagher.

    Chook.

    I agree Chooky.

I'm the union delegate at work and i've saved a few blokes from being unfairly targeted.

Remember, the union doesn't really have all that much power when you're in the wrong. They're only there to give the 'little guys' a fair go imo.

I know the union hater's will be all over this like a fly on shit, so i'll tell you right now that i'm not getting into a debate with anyone because i get too much of that shite in day to day life.

As a union man and a labour man.............i find myself in the craphouse of Australian society. I represent a political party that has been exposed as hollow and pliable. I cling to a vision of industrial relations in a haze of nostalgia.
Like Quixote, i stand confused when my vision is rebuked by the unthinking as a phantasm.
Mark Latham and Craig Thompson are the logical developments of modern Australian Labour.
Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd are the lifeboats.

I hear ya, I've been a delegate for every union I was a member of. I negotiated two Collective Agreements for an entire government department of over 5000 staff, one within the Workchoices period, and I have never given thought to being anything but fair and reasonable.

I hope they burn these bastards!

I finally understand why it costs so much money to be part of a union.

You get the feeling that Chook and co view unions as old women do the school fete. As a marker of times continuity and as a way of retaining some usefuleness in the safety of a myopic group hug.

$10 a week/ $520 per year is a small price to pay for that little bit of added job security imo.

My work has just had to tap 16 people on the shoulder for involuntary redundancies, and not 1 of them were union boys.

I get most of it back at tax time anyway.

Like a zealot......unfortunately your bloodlust will come gainst the courts. And guess what......the statute of limitations has conveniently ended after the commision took 3 well paid years to say naughty Craig.
The problem is power. Get an ordinary man, put a white collar around his neck and tell him he is the medium by which all others shall recieve the Word. Watch what happens.

Unionism is dying. I would be zealous as well if my self interest was being so publicly defiled.
In Thompsons defence, he was channelling funds to women whose bodies have been appropriated by the capitalist system.

I was a union member for several years whilst at CBA. When they decided to outsource their IT we were told we no longer had a career at CBA. Union took it too court and lost. No redundancy, lost all accumulated long service leave and other entitlements,

My biggest disappointment was not the fact I lost about $50k worth of entitlements. It was the fact I wasted several thousand dollars in union fees in the process.

Since then I have realised that I can make a lot more money by forgetting about unions and a false sense of job security.

Reading that, i can completely understand why you lost confindence in them.

It may happen to me one day, you never know, but just on my personal experience with unions, they've always been a help and not a hinderance.

Dunno how the union lost that one mate. Sounds pretty cut and dry if they were your legal entitlements? Although I am aware of some very dodgy legislation being enacted at the time to "assist in the transition" to outsourcing.

On a side note, what a bloody waste of billions outsourcing was. It cost the Australian taxpayer tens of billions of dollers and now...government is insourcing all our IT again as it costs too much to outsource.

                            Chook.

I don't know how they lost it either but they did. About 1500 employees lost their entitlements.

Outsourcing just another excuse to increase short term profits so that senior management can get their bonuses. I remember when EDS won the contract, part of the agreement was that they had to demonstrate an increase in productivity by 7% each year. They easily achieved the productivity increases by doing nothing in the first year.
