  • The Cricket Thread

Hopefully this proves to be more popular than the baseball thread.

All comments on the upcoming summer of cricket welcome. Any thoughts on the current spat between Mitchell Johnson and David Warner. I don’t think Warner’s form in test cricket over the past few seasons justifies his automatic selection for the team and a fairytale ending to his career. Having said that there’s not too many openers knocking the door down demanding selection either.
Anyway we should be way too strong for Pakistan and the Windies at home.

I don’t get that either but it’s only 2 tests unlike the 5 test series of old where the only time we stood a chance was on a spin friendly SCG pitch.

We could be in trouble when Warner retires. None of the potential replacements seem anything to write home about.

Aussies haven't done too bad despite Warner's lack of form over the past two years. I'm more concerned about Smith's and Labuschagne's current lack of form.

                        Quiet in this thread.
No mention of Warner's second innings duck, Marnus Labuschagne lack of form with the bat. Mitch Marsh's great batting both innings and Lyon getting his 500th test wicket.

Warners first innings century is the reason nobody is speaking about his second innings duck. That first innings alone should see him his farewell Sydney Test.

Marnus firm with the bat is a concern

Its wonderful to see Mitch Marsh is such fine touch and hopefully fulfilling the potential many have known he has

500 wickets A great achievement by Nathan Lyon aka Garry

A huge win for Australia and one can realistically expect another win in the next Test

Sorry Horrie, it’s been a combination of busy and other issues leaving me to ignore my own thread.
I think Warner was fired up to knock his critics in his first innings century and maybe he wasn’t as focused come the second innings. He’s pretty much guaranteed he’ll get the farewell he wants at the SCG now though. Marnus’ form has been pretty inconsistent for a while now. I m happy for Mitch Marsh but as a big Cameron Green fan I’m disappointed to see him out of the side. I really think he is the future. Marsh after about his 10th stint in the test team has finally come good and gets to play two home series against Pakistan and the West Indies. That century he scored in the Ashes though was absolutely brilliant and the reason he kept his spot.

Well done to Nathan Lyon too. It won’t be long before he catches Glen McGrath.

Looks like we might have a game on our hands in Melbourne Australia 4 down in their 2nd innings leading by 100
