  • India bowled out for 185 - probably made 30 or so more runs than they should have.

Last Ball Khawaja nicks off to slips - Australia 1 for 9 at Stumps

Need to knuckle down as it has all the hallmarks of the first test batting wise especially with a fired up India - Bumrah will be very hard to hold out on this pitch

Konstas needs to play as a test batsmen and not a T-20 player - It worked the first time but teams work you out pretty quickly if your intention is to play the same way every time.

Day 2 will be interesting - Australia must get a first innings lead of 200 at least.

    • There's Webster's 50. Congratulations big fella !

      • Poor Batting by Australia in the first innings - I kind of knew this would be similar to Perth as I said above.

Game result wide open now when the Aussies should have battered India out of the game.

The Aussie bowlers will need to bowl very well to restrict India's second inning to a gettable score - something they were unable to do in Perth - India declaring at 7/487 in their second Innings after taking a 46 run lead in the first innings - India 150 and Australia 104.

Anything over 250 will be hard to get in the 4th innings - maybe even 200

Except to Pant - Not sure why they ball short/wide and into the pitch to him in the hope he will be caught from a top edge or mishit -Pitch it up and bowl Yorkers.

A lazy shot from Khwaja there - gees don't blow it now with poor batting - Head the key for Both Australia and India - Australia will want him there at at the end and India will want to get him out and expose the middle / lower order - Webster in and looking nervous / Carey next then the bowlers Cummins/Stark /Lyon and Boland

              • I'm openly not a fan of cricket but dead set... why bother watching a game where we're 4/125 (needing 162 in total, I read the articles spruiking the contest as if we needed a further 162 which would be game on)?

I know this is a debbie downer approach to cricket but basically:

                - Most of the time you know the result at least a day before it happens.

                - Playing as a kid sux unless you're a top notch batter or bowler as you spend most of your time sitting around & look like a spaz when you give it a go as you're gonna get out for very little or sit around bowling wides / easily 6-able balls (thus encouraging people to give it a go isn't necessarily a good thing). Also, catching balls sux because they are so farking hard to the point where a good catch not only stings, it may well break your finger (hint: this is one area where the 'Murricans got it right by giving baseball players a massive leather glove when fielding).

                - I get that socially it's basically a chance for the blokes at my local oval to sit around chugging beers and munching durries while on the bench while telling the Mrs that they're engaging in ~8-10 hours of physical activity (heck, this is basically what Warnie did except he was a bloody good bowler & passable batter so to be fair, he was living the Australian dream of getting paid to consume beers/durries). However it's a massive time commitment, which I say even as a marathon runner who regularly goes out for 2-3 hour runs. But like... my 2-3 hour runs are done by 8am and I can hang with the family after that (and yes... chug the odd Aperol spritz or bottle of Jizzbrau IPA).

I appreciate that cricket requires an extreme form of athleticism that I'm possibly just jealous of because I can't bat, bowl or field to save myself (it also has a lot of weird technical lingo that you require a PhD in Cricket to understand). However, bring on the footy any day IMO!!! The cricket is not an adequate substitute for me, unfortunately..

Beau Webster not nervous at all.

No Cricket then possibly none of the football codes as these were only invented to keep Cricketers fit in the winter/off season.

When England first starting coming out to Australia in 1861 ( Non Test period) they played against 22 Australians -Then 18 then 15 then 11.

First ever Test Match Australian vs England at the MCG -March 15-19 1877 - Australia win by 45 runs

Centenary Test Match - Australia vs England at the MCG - March 12 - 17 - 1977 - Australia win by 45 runs

                        England's Infamous Dr W.G Grace

Grace's most famous quote came in an exhibition match in Australia when, upon being bowled, he reset the stumps and told his hapless opponent: "These people have not come to watch you bowl. They have come to watch me bat."

                            • Finally, we get the trophy back. Great win, never in doubt lol. What a shame Smith got out one short of his 10,000th run. Also, great debut from Webster.

I think you need to steer clear of this thread with an attitude like that. Cricket in summer is as Aussie as it gets.
