If anything they're stumble bums - the NBN, the billions wasted in "Defence" and now the fcuk up Snowy thing. It's the party of Capital fgs, not a bunch of well meaning rich people with the common man's interests at heart. They represent foreign polluting corporations for the most part.

FFS don't keep parroting the MSM.
Looks like I need to open up my own Economics 101 thread. But then again……I don’t think I could be bothered. There’s a bit more to what you’re saying about Howard.

To quote one of your heroes, "Please explain?" Bet ya can't. Give us all a laugh.

*MR . Don't tell me you have a more positive story about L'l Johnny's illustrious financial management? I bet you do, you little Tory minx- maybe it's his battle with fiscally conservative Costello who unsuccessfully attempted to stop him spending billions for the sake of his re-election. Jeez, that money coulda been spent on a cost of living "crisis".

Fark some tories are putrid. It's that stupid born to lead mentality... whenever they're not in power (which is historically not very often), it's 3 years of incessant whinging and putrid 'jokes' like 'put her in a body bag'.

Grow up! Some of us quietly endured deplorable candidates like Turnbull, Abbott and ScoMo without taking it so personally... while you creamed your pants over policies such as RoboDebt, shonky community grants, illegal citizenship & migration laws (from Dutton), delayed access to COVID vaccines, partying in Hawaii while Australia was blanketed in bushfire smoke, joining Trump's trade war against China (leading to a heap of band on our goods), refusing to acknowledge climate change and a heap of corrupt bull from Gladys / Ayres.

It's okay to disagree with individual policies but if you're just a member of the tories wanting to vent at us then control yourself. Grow a pair and lay off the misogynistic crap. Sorry that left-wing women with power trigger you so much...

Yes I love how they stoop to degrading the women with such offensive comments about their appearance, because Dutton, ScoMo, Abbott, Howard etc are such attractive looking specimens right?

No stories. Yes Howard was a big spender. Middle class welfare - the Baby Bonus, FTB, loosening the assets test for the Aged pension etc, tax incentives or subsidies for Superannuation for the over 60’s. He was able to do all this because of the favourable global economic conditions at the time and the enormous benefits to Australia of the resources boom. Household debt ( extra spending / demand) also helped with tax revenue as did the GST.

I’m not commenting on the political side of things here. Howard and Costello were big spenders but they were able to do it because of the very favourable conditions at the time. Also, if you could stop it with the gaslighting it would be much appreciated.

OH MR you really can be quite the lackey when it comes to Howard. I mean how can one forget or fail to mention his spending on the likes you mention were not just a result of a once in a lifetime economic resources boom but aided by the selling of national assets such as airports Telstra the national rail corp and dasfleet just to name a few.

Now Keating there was a brilliant economist

Lol Howard lackey. I never said spending millions on middle class welfare was a good thing. I just said the favourable economic conditions allowed him to do it without too much effect on the budget. Until the very end that is when he was desperately trying to keep the voters on side and stay in power. He also slashed the guts out of the Public Service - I was one and my hubby is still. Don't get me started on boats and wars. I was simply answering Paddo's question about Howard being rated as the biggest spending PM by members of the IMF. I didn't disagree with him, but stated why he was able to do this for so long.

Im shocked an intellectual economist such as yourself left out one of the major reasons the budget allowed this. That being the selling off of our assets I’ve mentioned

I think the mining boom and its domino effects had a greater exponential impact. Investments lead to profits / more income leads to more demand leads to more spending leads to more tax revenue etc etc. Exports leads to more income / demand / profit / tax revenue etc.

Or maybe I’m just a crap economist.
