Old mate always claims to be 'open minded' but magically becomes critical / agitated when people's open minds don't lead to the same conclusions he's making (which include being pro-Trump, pro-Russia...etc).

I wouldn't think too hard. His 'skepticism' is what I'd call 'implicit bias'. After a few conversations, you know which way he's gonna try steering you.

so biden reportedly close to pulling out ... i listened to his hour long press conference recently and he was competent but politics is about how the people perceive you not your competency so probably best he goes.

trump? good luck to those who like him but i'm not a fan. it was god that made the bullet miss him? yeah? if he's god's chosen why would god get that bloke to fire the bullet in the first place and kill an innocent bystander to boot? and for those who see the assassination as a direct result of democrats' 'vilification' of trump - turns out the bloke was probably a republican (he was a registered republican voter)..

This Republican gig looks like a hoot. That's a part of Aussie culture I'd like to see....be a bit more brash and proud, and a bit looser. (Respectfully of course not thuggery masquerading as 'protests') We are so stuff-shirted in our political presentation, though. No authenticity or fun.

And the great man himself...he looks to have come out of this horrific experience still resolute and focussed, but a little more serene and appreciative.
