The Germans had taken 90% of the City of Stalingrad - Victory was theirs - even minted Stalingrad Victory Medals - What went wrong has debated ever since.

Having been to Stalingrad now Volgograd a few times you get a feeling of the importance of this battle in the outcome of WW2 or Great Patriot War- Extra importance no doubt was placed on holding the city as it was named after their leader Joseph Stalin.
