Okay, I have a confession. For many years right throughout the 90s from when AJ was coach of Balmain and well into the noughties, I actually supported him. I felt he was the victim of blatant homophobia with all the innuendo and invective thrown his way. Even after reading the whole of Jonestown, which has some staggeringly eye opening revelations, I continued to believe it was all blatant homophobia. Then came his vile comments against women and other rubbish and the more I ‘followed’ his life and ‘story’ the more I started to become concerned about his unhealthy obsession and associations with young men. I now choose to believe those who have come forward as I don’t believe it would have been an easy decision for any of them. So I’m not a casual observer in this latest development as I’ve followed the Jones story over many years and was genuinely troubled by the innuendos thrown his way. I still feel some sort of sadness (not sure that’s the right word) for what appears to me to be the pathetic nature of his personal life. A lonely old man with schoolboy crushes for men young enough to be his grandkids. But if he is found to be guilty of what he is accused of then he deserves any punishment coming his way.
The jingle was something along the lines of 'Alan Jones Timber's the one... when you need someone you can rely upon. With the right price and good adviiiiiii-EEEE-ce... Alan Jones Timber's the one!'
Can't say I've ever purchased a trailer load of timber or ordered a heap of truss'...etc. However it's good to know that there's an Alan Jones out there who has a real job (that and the racing car driver).
i know it's not the thread to celebrate the magnificent victory of the great donald j trump. But the above cut n paste ( probably from the turnbull times) interestingly uses prefacing terms like 'alleged, claimed or accused' to these scandalous attributions. They know that the truth is likely being compromised against the great man so have been careful with their language. All the trumped up charges against him have been dropped now i think. Make truth your friend, not the enemy.
Has to go through the courts but I do recall him being arrested in London in 1988
On 6 December 1988, Jones was arrested in an underground public toilet on Broadwick Street in the Soho area of London. He was taken to the Mayfair police station and charged with 'outraging public decency' and 'committing an indecent act'.
Both Charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence.
I feel for BB in all this. An unswerving working class supporter of all things Tory, he must be shattered by what is surely not unexpected. Where will he get his opinions now? Hopefully, there's someone on Sky to fill the void though there is certainly nobody to replace him, not for BB anyway.

Just read "Jonestown" MR, that will dispel most of that misplaced sympathy. The man was an out of control ego maniac who cost the taxpayer millions with his ratbag "campaigns".

You obviously didn’t read my whole post as I stated clearly that I did read Jonestown in full. It is filled with some stunning accusations and tellingly Jones never sued or even addressed the book. Why! Possibly because he didn’t want the accusations tested in court where all sorts of unpleasant truths would be brought to the public light. The point of my post was that I DID have empathy for him for a very long time unlike most people who can’t see past his politics and just believe whatever’s said about him because of that. But I have eventually come to see that there are more to these rumours and innuendos than just the left wing media trying to attack him for his political views. Because of my previous empathy towards him I did do a lot of research and reading up on matters involving his personal life. According to Jonestown he had favourites amongst his students and kept way too close a relationship with them. He was forced to resign at Kings School as a result of concerns from other staff and parents. But as he got older the men he associated himself with and mentored never got any older. Generally 17-22 year olds. As I said I think it’s quite pathetic that a man his age still has schoolboy crushes for men 60 years younger than him. Nothing wrong with being friends but unwelcme advances and ‘grooming’ them and their families by throwing money and gifts at them is another matter. This is not about his politics or whether he’s an egomaniac (which clearly he is too).
