  • Best car that you've owned that cost under $10k.

For me hands down it was my Subaru Brumby that i purchased 35 odd years ago for $3200 and eventually sold it for $4k. Countless surf trips up and down the coast and plenty of trips down to the snow. It never let me down and cost around $10 a week in fuel when I was driving around the eastern suburbs.

Sold it as I wanted a Hilux with big wheels, lift kit etc. I enjoyed the Hilux however missed my little Brumby dearly.

A genuine Holden Torana LX SLR5000 in Mint Julip (lime green) for $6;250 in 1985.. My first car and would be worth an absolute mint now . There's not a day that goes by that I don't regret selling her .

Nice car mate. Now worth $100k plus??

The car park at Bondi beach was a place where car enthusiasts would meet at night time back in the day. The Torana with the drop tank always featured!

I met a bloke while fishing at Lake Conjola. He lost his old Maserati in the bushfires that smashed the area which was 1 of only 8 left in the world and was valued at $400k. He was gutted!

The humble Brumby is now selling for around $8k last time I checked.

1970 XW Gt starlight Blue Cleveland 351 manual. Sold it about 5 years ago for 92k and my eldest daughter almost killed me. Had it for about 20 years so most of my kid's life was in that car on weekends.
Hq SS before I was married was a great car to.
First car was a EH station wagon in pale yelow and white roof .

I’ve had a few. My first car was a 76 Cortina. That car copped a hiding and I couldn’t kill it.

The best one would have been my old 1984 Mazda 929 coupe. That car in 88-90 got the birds!

I had some awesome Holdens along the way including a 58 FC which I ended up selling to the president of the NSW Holden club. 3 Ek’s. 2 Wagons and a sedan which I rode in as a purple rat with scallops and moon discs on the wheels. 2 EH’s, one sedan and a wagon. A 76 HJ panel van as well which I used to travel and sleep in. Nights at Perisher were a bit chilly in that old bird.

I’ve had many others but my fav would have to be my 1970 VG Valiant 318 convertible coupe in candy apple red. Great cruiser. We used to get one of my mates dressed up as Santa and drive around the city centre giving out candy canes at Xmas time. I bought a 360 for it and had it bored out to almost a 383 but got an offer too good to refuse to sell it so never got it in there. Sold the old girl to fund my snowboarding career. Wish I hadn’t.

I nearly bought a 1971 LC XU1 Bathurst edition back in the late 80s for about $5 or 6k.

It was a Rally Red one. The LJs were more the hero ones (to the 80s buyers) but I wanted the original model.......

As I was just a teenager on my Ps, I couldn't get it insured...... It was the best car I had for under 10k that I never got lol.......

Gawd knows how much one would set you back now......

We used to play a game on cars trips called Matt Hammond from Skippy fame who drove a white XR Fairmont wagon.

If you seen one with only the driver it was 10 points - with any passengers 6 points - other colour than white 4 points - 2 points for the sedan model irrespective of how many were in the car or colour

Why were the ones with coloured passengers less valuable than the white ones? That’s a bit racist wouldn’t you think? I can understand the fascination with the Atlanta Braves and their racist sporting history now.
