Roast beef , chicken / turkey /lamb and all the baked vegies for Christmas - Pavlova and cheese cakes for dessert- the usual nibblies pre lunch and beer /wine - had many of my siblings over plus their children and their children's children - mmm where's the Russian dishes they asked - January 7th - so they will be over on that day as well.

Mrs Salvo not saying what she will cook for that day as yet. - I notice quite a few bottles of vodka though in the larder - mmm beetroots as well on the shopping list ( Borsch I assume ) one dish at least.

I reckon just hit the vodka and party on.

Curiously... I've been doing some balance exercises to help with my marathon running (assigned by my physio). At the start I struggled with one in particular. However, I just did it successfully while drunk. Those supportive muscles must be coming along smoothly.

Cheers, the view is a family treasure (grandpa was a violent drunk but he had a stable government salary that my grandma somehow rationed off such that we could get a shack on this block of land). Much has happened since but every meal begins with a toast to Gran.

Clothesline's a bit ordinary but I feel it matches the original, casual vibe of the point in an era full of McMansions and stuff

mmm when in Russia with my Wife's Grandparents /Parents and siblings Vodka was the toasting drink with plenty of nibble foods - Not sure how many I had but going outside into the cold it hit me full time in how much I consumed - more than the wobbly boot.

Russians think of Vodka as an Anti-Freeze and something you would put in your car's radiator to stop the water/liquid from freezing - talking about 40% plus proof Vodkas and many brands which you would never find in most other countries.

I can imagine some of my siblings not coping with these toasts - have 6 brothers/ 4 sisters and 22 nieces and nephews and 8 great nieces and nephews - Have 6 Nephews and 4 Nieces who are mad keen Roosters supporters living on the Central Coast although their fathers ( 3 of my Siblings are Souths supporters).

The buffet lunch i went to at the Sofitel Wentworth hotel was superb, the seafood was divine , great oysters and prawns but the Moreton Bay bugs were the standout, the carvery and meats were excellent, porchetta , ham, turkey and lamb shoulder, the vegetables and salads to were good, i would actually say it was the best appointed buffet i had been to, could not fault a thing and the alcohol just kept on coming. I was in a food coma only after and hour in, it was just so good,
Was still full when we got home so skipped dinner and in bed just after 8.30 pm

Today went down to a very quiet Marrickville Metro and picked up half priced shortbread from K Mart and half priced turkey from Woolworths.
Sounds fantastic, I really like their breakfast buffet there too.

we had a similar meal when at the the Brisbane Sofitel many years ago. They also had the bugs, and I was wrapping them in prosciutto, food coma is the perfect word.

Just love Moreton Bay bugs and these were good size and so meaty and sweet, went to the fish markets last Sunday and the bugs they had there were so small and scabby looking. When we up north in December we could only find Balmain bugs, i don't mind the Balmain bugs but they have a fishier more savoury taste than the Moreton Bay ones and not really a patch on their Moreton Bay cousins.
