Oh yeah he would Count. Comes from a family of small business folk. Dad went broke in the Whitlam years along with not a few others after the abolition of many tariffs. It was a good thing but it found out those who had become fat and comfortable on Protection for decades and who lacked the smarts to survive in the new economic environment. But hat's Capitalism and the old man wasn't much good at it evidently. Of course Dutts thinks his family deserves sympathy for the failure after years of being feather bedded and ripping off the consumer.

That's where Dutton's mission began apparently, with that ogre Whitlam - as if they would have voted progressive anyway. Small business (the petty bourgeois) is the classic Fascist constituency, thrifty but greedy, authoritarian and aspirational, the petit bourgeois struggles discontented through life. He is constantly wouda, coulda, shoulda and envious and resentful of unionised employees who might sometimes take home more money than him, the boss. You can see those scars and sense the misanthropy in Dutton.

Did he build the Childcare empire on the ashes of the "Fast Eddie" Groves collapse? That's a story in itself. The superior money managers' hero, Honest John, handed Groves a virtual monopoly - 70% control of Childcare in OZ and then poured in hundreds of millions in grants to demonstrate "private" enterprise's unique ability to do the job better and cheaper. The money duly disappeared into a network of companies and Eddy declared bankruptcy after not a long time. Childcare went into crisis. Never heard of that? That's strange.

Whatever, Dutton filling the void Eddie left looks iffy. Something like a Russian oligarchy situation and all on taxpayer coin.
Bagging small business now? Small business and tradies. You really have a thing against capitalism.

I look forward to his long essay reply. I’ll probably be accused of being brainwashed by Murdoch even though I dislike the man and his media outlets with a passion.

I was going to mention Super at some point. I’ll be keeping a very close eye on what Labor plans to do with Superannuation. Keeping their hands off it would be my main suggestion!

Yeah, they are all out to bleed us. Why anyone would think one party is actually better than the other is beyond me

For those with a balance of 3 million or more. Not too many out there who will be affected- roughly around 60,000 people

What the government should do is include the indexation of the $3 million threshold to avoid this being an unfair intergenerational tax

What the government should do is leave the ones alone that paid their tax , Medicare levies and will never be a burden on the government alone. To many handouts and do Gooders is why we are in a mess in the first place

Tradies ARE small businesses apart from the employed lot. Don't tell us that you've actually bought thatbullshit about being the heart and soul of the nation? MSM claptrap accepted uncritically by the uncritical masses much like "Libs are the better money managers" . Workers are the heart and soul of the country not those who get rich on Surplus Value. Tradie boss asks $100 p/h for the labourer whom he pays $45p/h.

Fair point re Rudd's wife '08. Rudd's paranoid China observations put him pretty much in the Lib ranks for mine. Part of the ALP who are distinguished from the Libs by only by a split hair. But Rudd's wife hasn't defrauded taxpayers like Howard's Captains pick.

Lol thought you’d say something like that. No we all play a part, workers, entrepreneurs whether big or small, trades or specialists, public or private etc.

And no, I don’t believe the default argument that conservatives are better at managing money. Sometimes you need to tighten the belt and sometimes you need to spend. I also believe that there are certain areas and specific target groups where government should always spend money, which the Liberal Party do not.

Has that been confirmed yet? I’ve seen a lot of speculation and scaremongering in the media but am not sure if the ALP has confirmed its actual policy on superannuation. I don’t have a major problem with a higher tax on the super rich but yes it needs to be indexed and 30% is probably a bit too high.
