  • The Official May 3rd 2025 Federal Election Thread

Albanese has just announced May 3rd as the date for the election. The countdown to the election is now on and both the lefties, the far right wing nut jobs of this site, and of course those who just wish to discuss the campaign trail here can do so.

PS Please keep it civil !!

Can't bring myself to waste my vote on either major party.
On the day I'll decide which minor player receives my valuable vote.

I'm in an extremely safe seat. Sure I'm serious about democracy and all but I'm a realist... my vote is merely a formality.

Not all that valuable unforch Eddie. Cancelled by some nong who will also make up his/her mind at the booth as a reported 20% do. It means that 20%. give no thought to the election during 6 weeks of campaigning - none! Then it's "Whom do I know? - Oh yeah, John Howard....".

Don't worry sir, I realise my vote won't have any bearing on things.
I'm just over this two party preferred system, it seems undemocratic. I'm sure you can wax lyrical about Albaneses success, yet there he is gloating about spending 286 billions on a few submarines.
The less said about Duttons lot the better.

Yes, the 2 party thing is problematic. Have you looked at The Greens policy list? Nothing to dislike there, even the subs will get the heave ho. Government should be by coalitions of smaller parties, it's a more difficult operation but is more representative. The trouble is that 90% of Aussies have no interest in politics just like they have no interest in their insurance policies, their Super performance, filling out taxation forms, anything that takes effort and understanding so I think that they'll stick with the 2 party, Just look at the way that the media/Libs demonised minority government in the Gillard period.

Keating calls the AUKUS thing a disgrace and it is, particularly for the ALP. The ALP Right is gung ho with it, determined not to get wedged on National security by the media. And you only need to look at News' front pages re the budget to see that it will be campaign headquarters until election day.

Argh, I get back home today and there are already electoral posters on some of the roadsides. A little Canberra quirk and annoyance.

Yes in one of the safest seats here, the current Prime Ministers seat. Always been a strong Labour seat despite boundaries changing over the years. only the Greens seem to make a dent in this electorate's figures.

My electorate is relatively new after a redistribution of the Canberra electorates in 2018. However, it’s fair to say it’s a safe Labor seat and is pretty likely to stay that way with Dutton’s promise to slash 40,000 public servants. My electorate is on the south side and ‘cheap’ side of the city.
