Can someone explain to me why Ecuador or the Ecuadorian Embassy in London is providing Assange with an extention of his status as a political refugee?

I dont mean to save him from being extradited to Switzerland, I mean why does a country like Ecuador, a country that he is not from take on the drama of helping out an Australian that is wanted by Switzerland & America?

I have a feeling that if the Yanks don't get him this time, Assange will be the victim of a ricin tipped umbrella or a "mysterious" disappearance.

I don't know for sure, either way.
I kept listening & reading whenever something became available. He is not the clean skin some would have you believe but then who is. I have heard that he is arrogant & egotistical but that is irrelevant when you read some of the things that the US & allied governments have been plotting & doing. His crime is to expose it all.
The US stuffed up by not "censoring" him earlier. Now they are playing the dirty tricks card to try & get him anyway they can.
