Me and Ms Loiner had 3 courses each, a bottle of wine plus a glass each and it was only $160. I had the scallops with pork, an eye fillet steak and a ginger sponge for dessert, which was world class. A proper pudding, with no salted caramel in sight!

    Highly recommended.

Also, an update on the Henson....the new pork belly burger is the best burger I've had in a long time. It's outstanding.
Glad you enjoyed Linda's, there are seriously good dishes on the menu at the moment, need to visit there again soon .
The pork belly burger sounds good, love pork belly, its funny a lot places you go to now seem to have pulled pork sliders on the menu and for some reason the term pulled pork just puts me off, don't know why but it does, but I love pork belly so must check it out.Went to dinner at the Henson with friends sometime back in May and they were looking forward to the duck shepards pie but they had taken it off the menu.

Hey HH, I think they replaced it with a bisket cottage pie or something. There's definitely something like that on the menu. Have a go at the truffle and parmesan fries, they're outstanding.

Yep there was another cottage pie on the menu which a couple of people ordered, pie was ok but it had deep fried brussel sprouts which were apparently terrible . I had the massamum lamb shanks which were nice but a bit disappointed as the menu says lamb shanks but you only get one shank. I have ordered the dirty bird before which is yummy. The truffle and parmesan fries sound yummy and also noticed they have pine nut crusted ham hock croquettes which I will try next time. Like Linda's I have to go give the Henson another visit soon.

Have a big group dinner there sometime in August and they are arranging platters for the hungry hordes.
I actually walked past there Saturday afternoon and a group came out and they were carrying left over bags and I heard one of the guys say that he had eaten so much he was feeling sick.
If the serving size are the same of the White Cockatoo [ which I have heard that they are ] it would take me 3 meals to finish of one of their schnitzel meals and I am a big eater.

Just think of it as slow cooked shredded pork. I saw it on Martha Stewart and it's because after it's cooked, it's too tender to carve with a knife, so it's pulled apart with a couple of forks before serving. It's an American way of cooking it which originated in the Deep South. I had some in New York at Justin Timberlake's restaurant as he grew up in that region and it's quite tasty. I've had better in Australia since though. Even in Martin Place you can get yummy rolls but I prefer to make it at home maybe once or twice a year as I'm not a big meat eater.

Don't take me there then! I buy one normal size schnitzel and cut it in half and freeze it to have a week later.

                  • Not a huge pizza fan but the Crust store at Double Bay makes my mouth water when I use the bus stop outside there (like today) and read the menu while I wait..plus they are Roosters fans too as the store was decorated during Grand Final week last year.

Our friend had a steak from the same people at the White Cockatoo Hotel, he made a good dent in it but got nowhere near finishing it, we weighed the left overs when we got home and it was 800gm, he was going back to Gold coast the next day so we created a nice meal with the left overs, that was after we finished off the schnitzels. Honestly the serving portions are obscene, you could feed a third world country on the left overs.

                        • Went here for dinner last night before attending the Ensemble theatre

                          http://www.streetmarketasiantapas.com/

Have had yum cha here before but never tried the night menu, it was just stunning, most dishes are small tapas style but enough for two people, the lamb ribs were just lick your fingers beautiful and not too sweet or fatty, the butter garlic tiger prawns just had me wanting more, steamed prawn and pork wontons superb, the malay chicken curry with roti was light and fragrant and the chicken sang choi bao had a nice bite to it. Really enjoy yum cha here but dinner was just beautiful, plenty of other things I want to try on the menu, it is a notch above most Asian eateries in Sydney, cant wait to go back again.

                          • Can't wait to do my cafe crawl next week. Also have some vouchers to spend at Easts Leagues so might try the salmon this time. I took my sister last year and she said the fish and chips at the club was the best she ever tasted. Even better was the Vermin brother in law paid for it all...lol...

                            • Went to the truffle festival in Canberra cant recommend it enough.

Went to a place called Sage won best restaurant in 2013 they grow all their produce. Had a 3 course lunch for $75 Scotch egg on truffle mash, Puccini mushroom truffle risotto, truffled bread and butter pudding, it was a bargain and maybe the best lunch I ever had.

Dinner was @ the boat house on the lake 8 course degustation truffle menu with matching wine only $160 superb, as strange as it sounds the highlight was a the desert which I am usually not a fan of, roquefort truffle cheese cake with a cab sav ice cream and candy orange...it was a take on a cheese + wine plate, amazing.

Bought a 25g black french truffle currently in the fridge with 18 eggs infusing them for scrambled eggs, will make some truffle oil and cooking Carbonara tomorrow night the authentic way with truffled eggs not cream and Guanciale not bacon which is sort of like Panchetta but more fatty.

all truffled out and cant wait till next yr

If anyone knows of any other food festivals plse post

                              • There are some lovely Farmer's Markets at Bondi Beach every Saturday. I went down today but just took a walk around smelling all the delicious aromas. The food stalls are always busy and you can sit on the grass and look at the ocean. Nice day for it today too.
