Thanks for the tip. I don't eat meat much these days at all but I can walk down to the Curlewis St one (it takes me almost an hour) and am partial to some fries now and again. Might do that next time I go down to the Farmers' Markets at the beach.

    • I have 5 days off at the end of July/beginning of August for Bank Holiday and my birthday so going to organise a lunch at Margaret's at Double Bay, Neil Perry's new casual dining, which he is opening in a couple of weeks. He said it won't be fancy white table cloths but pizza, burgers (he posted a picture of one on the dedicated Instagram page set up for this particular venue as he's been making them for the tradies doing the finishing touches for him) and other family friendly food.

      • Lots of flash looking eateries in the newly opened extension of Marrickville Metro, will check them out closer once the crowds die down a bit and some of them not quiet ready to open yet either but Karls Charcoal Chicken has been packed for the last three days and already getting good reports from some of my customers, also the Grumpy Italian looks good too.

Dined in after the Swans game yesterday, beautiful food, shared deep fried oysters, steamed scallops and prawns in betel leaves with fish roe for entrees, all were beautiful but the fried oysters are just divine and would have ordered another serve but they had run out. Played it safe and just had a massaman curry for main and again such delicate and subtle flavours, they have so much more on the menu which i have tried over the years including prawn and eggplant, crispy skin salmon with basil, peanut curries, the list goes on. Beautiful friendly service, there is a reason why this place has survived on the strip so long when just about everything else around has closed.

          • A little Italian place has opened on King st Newton, this place has had so many fast food places come and and go from here but now a small Italian has opened and hopefully will stay, decided to give it a go about 3 weeks ago and have been three times now, pizzas are great as so are the entrees of meatballs, calamari and octopus i have had over the three visits, nice to have a place so close that has been consistent every visit so far.
This is the menu from their Allawah store, the Newtown menu has a couple more things on it.

I hope this one lasts, the spot where it is had so many failed businesses over the last 5-6 years, there was a charcoal and fried chicken shop that lasted one week, something to do with the rental agreement, another one was an American style hot dog place that lasted 6-9 months. Nothing fancy but have really enjoyed the meals i have had there so far.

                • Went to Wild Sage again for the first time in around 3 or 4 years. So lucky it's right near work now. Such a treat to be able to go out and about again twice a week whilst in the city. Mondays and Tuesdays are our designated days so it's nice and quiet. I had miso pumpkin with a sesame crust and a side of sweet potato fries. My friend had BBQ octopus with potato and snow peas and it was a big serving so I'm going to have that next time. I'm one of the people in charge of organising our Christmas lunch so I'll let everyone know how that goes too.

Unfortunately this didn't quite last the years out, it closed about 6 weeks ago. I loved their pizza and customised my own four seasons there which i put Italian sausage, artichoke, zucchini and mushroom.

                    • Going here with friends for dinner after the Swans game on Sunday, a lovely unpretentious cheap eats on Crown St, smallish menu but what they do they do it well, the seafood spring rolls and the stuffed chicken wings are the bomb.

                      • Going to try this place perhaps on Monday for lunch at Darlinghurst.

                        Beautiful healthy menu:

                        • A couple of places from recent trips to the shoalhaven.

found this gem on New Year’s Eve when I couldn’t get a reservation, it’s a bus converted into a pizza and past haven.

there is nothing there that I wouldn’t recommend, he makes everything, and everything is so so tasty. The garlic bread “dances” when you tear it apart, pastas are silky, and I can’t think of a better pizza base that I’ve had, prices are cheap too.

a fantastic addition to the huskisson scene, only thing I can’t recommend is the lasagna, it was dry and pretty tasteless, hard to believe when all the other dishes we have tried were really well done. All hand made at the premises, cannoli were outstanding.

Maeve O’meara has recently bought this place, it was always a really good fish n chip shop before, with a beautiful setting in currarong, seems to have gotten a bit more popular with her name to it now, food is still really good, and I think she has some plans to make it even better, was good having a chat to her as she serves from behind the counter.

Interesting that Mauve has bought this place, think the take away place there was called Zac's before that, such a pretty and peaceful spot Currarong.
Spent a week house sitting for friends who have a place at Shoalhaven Heads but didn't venture far from there, went to Greenwell Point one day and had fish and chips at Pelican Rocks, fairly decent, also got some oysters from one of the sheds and prawns also, was going to drive further onto Currarong that day but thought we would do that next time we are down..
Had dinner at the Shaolhaven Heads bowling club a couple of nights, food is actually good there, had takeaway pizza from Pizza Loco at the Heads also and they do pretty good pizza's. The steak special on a Monday night at the Shoalhaven Heads hotel was good, decent steak and cooked exactly as ordered, nice sitting there outside with a steak and a glass of red, Also went back another night to have a couple of cocktails and ended up winning two meat trays with lots of lamb. It was a great little break.

You’re right mate it was Zac’s place. Think they struggled during covid and wanted to sell up.

I was so disappointed with the pelican rocks fish n chips, we waited over an hour for our food, and it was average at best, got roped in with the “voted best fish n chips in Australia”

Abrahams bosom beach is a fantastic little beach In currarong, a little sheltered from the wind, and just a 5min stroll to maeve’s for some takeaways

you’ll have to try pizza by pietro when you are down there next horrie, I think he used to be somewhere in Sydney before, now just does 3nights a week from a front lawn in south Nowra, the first time we went we were lucky, as he only had 4 dough balls left, I have missed out on his pear and custard calzone in my 4 visits, but his tiramisu made up for it.

Yeah i don't how it gets voted best fish and chips in Australia multiple times but after seeing the Best Fish and Chips voting platform they have every year its no wonder it can be skewed, you can vote every day, something like that you should be only to vote once and once only. I have been three times to there but only ever order the black fish or if they have it leather jacket and the fish has been decent, their chips are a let down, never have had a problem wait time there even when it is busy but i will admit its not a patch on my favourite Life Boat up at Brooklyn.

When i was working at the big Liquor warehouse in Waterloo called Quaffers, a guy who owned the Pickled Possum in Cremorne who bought grog from us for the business had a house down at Currarong right on the water, i visited there one time and we fished off the rocks in front of his place and caught a nice feed of bream and black fish, this was back in the late 90's or very early 2000's. I often wonder whether he is still alive or still has the place down the coast, i'm sure he sold the business years ago.
