Canberras got some good places but my fav at the moment is a place called "smoque" in the city. its a american ribs type place and the platter for $99 has pork ribs, brisket, ribeye, pulled pork, chicken and buffalo wings with plenty of sides. i loved it but as it is the only real rib joint in canberra i dont have much to compare it to. i tried getting into hurricanes in bondi afew times last yr during the christmas break, but they were booked for the week i was there, and the line to wait for a table was way to long. must be good!?
Hope to get down to Canberra for the Raiders game if not before it, i have friends who live in Hawker and one time they took me to a very non descript Chinese restuarant in some suburb and the food was fantastic. That platter you mentioned sounds seriously heart attack material, it also sounds yummy

Gelbison at Bondi is also great if you want a quick Italian meal.
Have you been to Balkan since it moved to 249 Crown St yet?

if u like the balkan, then when you are in canberra you cant go past "maestral" in weston creek. very comparable to balkan for food. Guy who opened it 10 yrs 15yrs ago still runs it.

So youre a sucker for European cars then? Some of the stuff that comes out of this part of the world can both amaze you and make you cry at the same time!

Side note, just about every car that went past me at over 200kmh on the weekend in Germany was either an Audi or a Volvo.

The food there at the Xmas markets was sensational btw!

That's actually very funny Mickey! What happened to my post wishing you a happy birthday and your reply? You and I were actually being polite to one another for a change and I was being genuine and now all evidence of this has been deleted! So again, Happy Birthday and I'm happy you had a nice lunch with your Mum. I went to a work Christmas lunch today at Criniti's and as per your request I will review it...let's just say it's not my sort of place as I'm not a fan of the 'nightclub' feel in the middle of the day. We had a private dining area which wasn't really private as there was loud music being pumped in everywhere plus a DJ's desk and equipment dumped right near our table which I moved because one of the ladies in my group is expecting a baby and I didn't want her to trip. I had to ask for a chair for my manager because funnily enough he didn't want to stand for a 2 hour lunch . We had to ask 3 times for water and then it came out without glasses. I think they expected us to swill it from the bottles. It was incredibly loud and impossible to converse. As for the food itself, I had the entree size corn fritters which were ok as I don't eat large main meals and 3 people at the table were unable to eat their pasta. The salads looked very good though and were presented beautifully.

That's it for me for the 'forced socialising' for this year so I'm looking forward to resuming my geek girl offseason activities of bird watching, seeing art house movies at the Dendy Opera Quays, library book reading and writing in my new Roosters diary..
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year and I will see you all next season. I'm need to step away from the computer for the next few months and enjoy being back home in our wonderful city. Thanks guys for keeping me company whilst I was stuck in Melboring. As much as I love to bicker and argue with a few of you, I really do get a lot of laughs out of this place..

                      Thank you again.
I was thinking the same, we exchanged plestsetries (not sure on the spelling of that one) & they get deleted. Maybe they thought our accounts got hacked?

Redwhiteblue we are definately on different pages but we do have the Roosters in common & we both like chatting about them, I know I can be annoying but I dont mean to offend. You are entitled to at times to tell me to shut up or pick me up on spelling mistakes or disagree with my posts & hate me but so long as we can come back onto the forum at a later time & communicate with each other it's all good.

Trust me redwhiteblue if you did ever meet me you would think I am OK. You wouldn't fall in love with me but my personality would win you over.

Thanks for the run down on Critis's. You should of told them you were Roosters fans.

                      • I bloody well hated Critis the only time I ate there. Very average food, crap service and ridiculous prices for what they were serving up.

I even posted earlier in this thread that it had closed and it was re opening in Crown St and it looked liked the seafood one had re opened back again, it was closed for about 3 months on the Oxford St site and was only after the original opened in Crown st that the seafood opened its door again, the blog said it was a rent dispute, i think it seems more like a family dispute

Anything around Darling Harbour and King St Wharf are just plain out rip offs and there to trap unexpecting tourists
