    • I've got a couple of good new ones (to me) to report.

Riley Street Garage at Wooloomooloo. A big garage-y type space, vey much along the same lines as 4Fourteen. Awesome food, but can get a bit noisy when it gets full. Service was good though. The kingfish carpaccio sticks in my memory, along with the crispy pork knuckle.

The Bridge Room, in the City. Went there on Saturday and it was top class. Peter Gilmore from Quay was in there having dinner, which I took to be a good sign, and I wasn't disappointed. I had the spanner crab starter, and John Dory main which were both excellent, although the crab dish was a bit on the small side.

The wine list is very good but a bit pricey, Ms Loiner ordered a cheeky bottle of Chablis, before I had the chance to scan the wine list and it turned out to be a $95 bottle. Ah well, it's only money. I had the cheese plate for dessert, which was probably the best one I've ever had.

Service was awesome. Very friendly for a fine dining sort of place, I've been to some places that have staff that are a bit up themselves....hello Icebergs.

All in all, both places are well worth a visit.

      • Went to Deviate at Clovelly last week on yet another travelzoo voucher, had a share entrée of baguette with whipped ricotta and truffled honey, white bait fritters, salted cod balls and arancini with chicken and chorizo, all were lovely, this was a great little teaser, all the elements were delicious. Mains had salmon fillet on spaghetti with chilli, cherry tomato basil and spinach and the main ordered was a chicken salad with cherry tomatoes, radicchio, olives and polenta croutons, the salmon was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and mixed well with the spaghetti with just enough chilli hit, the chicken salad was simple but delicious and the polenta croutons were crisp on the out side and nice and fluffy on the inside, with a bottle of wine the deal was $49, it was great value and one of the nicest lunches I have had, service was excellent to, cant wait to go back again.

        • Not in Sydney but the Dumpling Inn in Macquarie Canberra got two visits when I was down there last week, very non descript looking restaurant on the outside but once you step in its a different ball game, it has the usual suspects but lots more interesting stuff also, ordered the boiled dumplings in hot vinegar soup both times to share, the pippies in xo sauce were delicious, the whole flounder done salt and pepper style was good too, just wish this was closer to Sydney

Yes I thought of you and that's why I messaged you the other day! We'll have to add that to our list of places to go back to.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of Burger Project, I love a good burger and as I mentioned to you that Jacks at Newtown did not make the grade, very ordinary and the crinkle cut chips were a grease trap.

I'm planning on having the vegetarian burger but I'll let you know the verdict from the rest of my work mates too.

Thanks HH, close to me so will check it out.

Now before you all have a go at me, has anybody tried the build your own burger at Mcdonalds?
Gotta say, with the brioche bun, real pickles, mushrooms, grilled pineapple, crispy bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce and ketchup , it is one of the most enjoyable burgers i have had in a while!

I love going to the Dumpling Inn whenever I'm in Canberra.
Haven't eaten Maccas for about 15 years now but when I was down in Canberra I had a burger at Brodburger in Kingston, while I have better burgers before it still was pretty good.

Brodburger was better when he ran it from a little red caravan on the lake, government wanted to shut him down, but a huge petition forced them to give him a shop in the kingston district. He minces his own meat, and they are a big burger, he also has a hot dog van in tje middle of town called broddogs, pretty good also.

I dont mind the Grilled burgers, tasty selections and at a more eatable size, the one next to easts leagues is handy when not much else around.

I would never have a go at anyone for enjoying McDonalds as they do so much with Ronald McDonald House, plus its the only takeaway place I really like. I only have it about once a year, if that, even though there are a couple close to work. I like the sound of your combination and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I tend to make my own at home as I don't eat a lot of red meat but I do like to add mushrooms, beetroot, baby spinach etc on a sourdough roll from a shop run by Roosters fans. They tend to give me some leftover rolls now and again and freeze them and then use them for the burgers at home. Apparently there is a Nandos opening tomorrow near work with free food for a couple of hours, so some workmates plan on stampeding the place! I'm not a big fan of chicken on burgers so I will wait until Friday when we try out the Burger Project.

The last time I had McDonalds I was so sick that I vowed I would never eat it again and I haven't, the smells that come out of the one that's about 200 metres from home is enough to make stick to my promise and that was the one I was sick after eating it. Had Nandos once and was pretty unimpressed, Oporto's is ok once in a blue moon.

My friends told me about Brodburgers when it was in the van, I saw Broddogs on Sydney weekender a few months ago, I do love a good hot dog so will try it next time I'm in Canberra. I do agree about Grilled, the one at Easts Leagues makes a decent burger.
