  • Introduction of new rules!!

Lets face it Nrl has fallen behind in the excitment area ... AFL are always introducing innovative ideas/rules to change the game around,,, which has been successful in bringing in revenue!!

Afl introduced an video referee which helps the goal umpires in judging a goal if unsure. This dosnt impede with the flow of the game becoz its up to the fieid umpires if they want to use that particular technology or not.

    Any ideas on rule changes??

*I believe NRL should introduce 4 quaters instead of 2 half's
*if not than they should give a team an opportunity to use a timeout 1 every half to implement strategic plans!!!

    What u think? Any ideas?

This isnt hockey, baseball, basketball, NFL or any other Americanised sport. Let the game flow and stop 'stopping' the game!

Take the mike's off the refs get rid of the video refs & drop the interchange to 6. And also restrict the Broncos from having any players that are not from Brisbane. Being the only team from Rugby Leagues heartland & allowed to have Kiwi's & NSW players is wrong.

FMD to prove your point you picked up a rule change that the NRL had already introduced in the 1990's.

All im saying is it time for change **filthy**

We see other sports flourish why cant ours!!

The timeout just 1 so momentum can be altered.. which is really hard in NRL.. compared to other sports!!!

It's a game of attrition & stamina, IMO timeouts should not be introduced, but interchange numbers should be reduced, as Mickey suggested & at the risk of going backwards 30 years or so, I would really like to see how the teams would go with a 5 meter rule instead of the 10 metre rule. Many of the old head commentators have said that this would open the game up more, I'm not so sure, but I would like to see it tested in the trials or lower grades.

edit: Also if there was any way we could go back to a contested scrum, I think this would help the game gain alot of respect from fans who have left it, let's face it the scrum as it is now is a joke!

My pet hate about the scrums, is that now when scrums are formed any player packs into any position on the field. The fullback will pack into the scrum, a second rower will stand out in the centres or at 5/8 ...basically its like just pack in wherever the hell you feel like.

I mean one of the arguments for keeping (uncontested) scrums in the game, is that at least there is one attacking play where all the forwards are out of the way and just the backs can launch an attack. Well that argument is now moot, as half the forwards now stand out in the backline and the backs pack into the scrum. If thats the case then either revert back to contested scrums or just get rid of them once and for all !

You do realise this system has come under heavy criticism from the AFL media and supporters? Wasn't exactly the best example.

I guess so!! But its just the transition of the game that is AFL!!

My point is NRL should twist the rules around a bit from what the game is now!

What eg would u have given.. as well as have u got any ideas to put forward??

                        a new innovation

as refs are currently wired up for broadcasting it seems natural that they become accountable for their sometimes confusing decisions, consequently id like to see the ref or re3fs explain their decision via the ground pa system!

What would be the point in halting momentum? If one side has been good enough to build it, then why penalise them for it by introducing a 'time out'? Makes no sense to me. Our sport can flourish with some tweaks in the right spots but I dont believe that adding more stoppages is a way of doing it.

Heres one for ya... and this will stir the pot. Obviously the refs need to be made more accountable for their decisions and I like the idea of the refs open mic to explain a controversial or hard decision but what if the refs could be pulled mid game and replaced by the sub ref if they have obviously made a stupid blunder. I dont know who could make the call on the ref, maybe the vidiot or Harrigan or what if the coaches could have one ref change each during a game? Wouldnt that cause some shit!!!???

One small problem with that Is you would not hear what the referees were saying at our ground The PA system there is ****ed
