  • Pilgrimage to Mecca

'Once a year, the Hajj takes place in Mecca and nearby sites. During the Hajj, several million people of varying nationalities worship in unison. Every adult, healthy, sane Muslim who has the financial and physical capacity to travel to Mecca, must perform the Hajj once in a lifetime".

The first that I ever heard of this converge of Muslims on Mecca was probably about 8 years ago.

Not being a Muslim myself but open minded toward them I have never really taken much notice of the annual pilgrimage other than hearing a few years ago that a whole heap of pilgrims died during the event.
My take on the annual Hajj from an outsiders point of view is that it is bizarre but so is the running of the Bulls.

I was brought up a Catholic & had a Catholic education but I have no affliation with the Catholic Church. I married in the Catholic church to keep my Mum happy.
I believe the very basic things of religion have some good ethical principles eg Honour thy father and thy mother but overall I think religion is no good.

To have millions of Muslims converge like that has me shaking my head but I respect those who believe & follow there faith.

Anyway has anyone on here ever attended the pilgrimage or does anyone know anyone who has?

It should have just taken the shortcut through from one ear to the other.

Mickey has 'experienced' a lot of things. His 'experience' would definately rule him out ever becoming a Muslim.

Hes better off staying a Catholic and hanging with the alter boys.

It (the fly through Mickey's head) would have broken the sound barrier!
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

That is the perfect answer. Chances are: '66/1 on' Mickey won't comprehend what you just wrote.

Mickey has a good post. This folder is about 'Other Topics' and it is that.
As for pilgrimages...I wouldn't consider running of the bull a 'religious pilgrimage'. However there are many ones that the catholic have, be it smaller and more regional but the biggest one I can think of at the moment, and a celebration of a catholic saint is, Saint Patrick's day where all Irish and Irish for a day of catholic faith run in unison to the nearest Irish pub and do a jig with a pint or 10. In fact I think St Patrick's is larger than the hajj as this is worldwide.
