    Citizens want guns?

The price you pay is the death of people in 5-10 years old.

    http://www.news.com.au/world/feared-...-1226537283734

The gun lobby will come out and say "but if the teachers were armed, this wouldn't have happened" or "guns dont kill people, people kill people"

Why do US citizens think that you need a semi-automatic for protection.

But I understand that it will be hard for Obama to try and ban guns. His popularity will become less than black licorice

Put into perspective quite easily, child finds a pistol- accidently kills a member of her family at the dinner table.

Same scenario with an automatic weapon she accidently wipes out her whole family.

No gun for child to find- no family member dies accidently.

There is no need for gund to b
e so easily available, but surely ifthey are, why do they have to be automatic weapons?

Grow some nuts obama and do the rihht thing and ban the weapons, in the long run your legacy will shine.

They are not too worried about legacies anymore mil. Its all about the here and now. Popular today is good enough sadly. Unortunately, to make a difference you wont be everyones best friend.

Too late for gun legislation to have any short term benefits.

There are so many weapons in the USA it would have minimal effect. If it was to happen it should have been 50 years ago.
I forget how many guns there are in America but it is something like 3 or 4 for every person.

unbelievable. surely if you put in an amnesty about half would be handed in, and from then on being made illegal would not keep increasing the amount of weapons. if obama or whoever is in charge is worried about popularity, then bring in the legislation near the end of your term as i believe you can only be president for 8yrs in the u.s.a? If there is a revolt by the american people over this than they are a dumb breed and should not be suprised when these type of evebts take place.

Like in Aus, there would be a lot that would hand in......that would help, but at the end of the day if someone wants a weapon they will get it.

The trade in illegal weapons into Australia is growing all the time. You might be able to stop a great proportion of them with customs & better checking of imports/containers but the logistics of it would be impossible.

There are a lot of hand guns finding there way into the country in parts. Bit by bit they are collected & then assembled.

                    .

Mate you probably know a bit about it, in the u.s.a are you actually allowed to carry a gun on yourself as you are walking down the street?

I heard the other day that there are more than 3000 people killed by guns there every year, the next closest i think was canada at about 200. Surely taking them off the street to the common man would reduce the temptation of a impulse shooting, if a madman wants to do what has happened in the past few days, then no law will probably stop that.

The only things that I know about the US & guns are what I learned years ago (when I was registered shooter with my son). It was an interest that opened your eyes as to what the rest of the world was like, regarding firearms.
It varies from State to State but there are a lot that open firearm wearing is permitted. I believe that one of the States (Oklahoma?) at one time actually mandated that all adults MUST wear an exposed firearm. Curiously enough, at that time, violent crime & associated deaths were the lowest in the country. Something to do with no one game enough to start a confrontation.

There are also scores of collectors that have massive stores of all sorts of weapons.
One collector I remember reading about had a huge underground bunker with thousands of weapons (with ammo) of all types including surface to air missiles, anti tank/armoured vehicle weapons, grenades & rocket launchers etc.
And all of this was legal.

Believe it or not the guns are not the problem. In Switzerland nearly every household has an automatic weapon but massacres like what happened in the US is extremely rare.

The difference is in Switzerland the people with the guns are properly educated whereas in America the people with the guns breed with vegetables.

                              Chook.
