JC is 46 yrs old. When I was in my teens I had been taking guitar lessons for a couple of years and I remember hearing a band called the Angels play Take a Long Line, Marseille etc. And that was it for me. I started singing in a band and half our songs were Angels songs
Then I realised that I was not that good a singer
so I concentrated on the guitar, heavily influenced by the Brewster brothers. Back then I thought they were the greatest guitarists in the world. Now, after playing for the past 30 years, I can say that they are not, but my god did they come up with some great songs.
I have been playing guitar in bands for the past 30 years at Corp Events all over Australia. Big Top, Evan Theatre, Fox Studios, QVB, Hope Estate...and I owe it all to Doc and the Angels. They are what inspired me to learn a craft like the guitar. No doubt about it. My mum still remembers the early days and me learning the riff to After The Rain
It is still locked in her head.
Now Doc fights for his life with a brain tumour. He is 66. Way too young to go. I saw the Angels live so many times I have lost count. I can still recall standing in the front row at Shelleys (Shellharbour) and having Doc slap me across the face during Shadow Boxer. I was 17 or so and it was a pleasure to be slapped by the big man. Surely a brain tumour is wasting its time trying to bring down Doc Neeson.
Best of wishes Doc.
