  • Geale V Mundine

The fight all Aussie fight fans have wanted to see again is on Wednesday night. I watched a replay of the 2009 fight last night and am now really looking forward to this. What a top fight the last one was and full credit to both fighters who made it a great fight. The last fight though was marred in controversy. Personally watching it again there was not much in it with Geales workrate being very high but Mundine landing the better punches throughout the bout. I couldnt argue with the decision or the scoring. However the pertinent and defining moment in the fight was what appeared to be a 10th rnd knockdown inflicted by Geale on Mundine being called a slip. Yes Mundine did slip on the advertising in the ring as he was going backwards after taking a shot and to me it was more of a slip than a knockdown. However the rules of boxing state that if a fighter hits the canvas after being hit whilst going backwards this is a knockdown Taking this into account and the final judges card being a 1 point win to Mundine This fight at the very least should have ended in a draw or a win to Geale

Moving on to Wednesday now What are everyones thoughts and predictions for the bout My own thoughts are the betting is ridiculous with Geale very short as opposed to Mundine I notice there has been a few large bets taken for Mundine to win this fight Watching the fight last night this appears to be two fighters with close to equal ability Anyone who completely discards Mundines chances in this is naieve However I do think Mundine will not be allowed to win on points and must knock him out to win. Seeing both fighters hit each other with there best shots last fight and with Mundine landing the better and more of the best shots Mundine will have to pull out something extra special. I feel this fight will go the distance. What could cost Geale is if he is hell bent on knocking Mundine out He may leave himself vulnerable to be KOD himself

    Cant wait till Wednesday night

Geale will handle Mundine with ease.

I'm not sure about the knockout though, Mundine is an expert at running, he's had to be because he's got no power.

            Yep.
Geale just needs to take his time & play it smart.

Mundine is still capable of an upset if Geale tries for the ko.

Mundines strength is his speed and footwork to avoid getting hit...frustrating his opponent into error... but if its a punch for punch fight geale will be too good.

Yep, you and fitty are bang on JFC.

If Geale can stay patient and not let the muppet get under his skin it should be an easy day for him.

So which one is it Andy?

3 independent judges were hired to judge and score the bout after an investigation that Mundines camp had threatened the original judges ringside.

All 3 had Geale as clear winner and the IBO ordered a rematch.

The Man fighting someone in his prime.

He will either get belted or win surrounded by controversy.

It's always the way when The Man fights someone good.

                    Or Garth Wood.

Yet all three experienced commentators to one were of the opinion the bout could go either way I know of people who think Geale won that fight and I know of others who think Mundine won. It was that kind of fight

I am not particularly interested in what 3 judges verdicts were after the fight and all the carry on after it was done and dusted. Although it would be nice to know if in there scoring of the bout they counted this a a knockdown or not

What interested me and the pertinent point in the whole bout was the 10th rnd knockdown being interpreted as a slip Had this correctly been ruled a knockdown the fight would have either either been a draw or Geale wins. Meaning either way Geale should have retained his belt

                        Fair post Mr Walker.

Although I wouldn't agree that it was as 50/50 as you say.

I think some peoples perception of that fight possibly yours included was clouded due to their hatred of Mundine

Greedy I am actually surprised you dislike Mundine. Here is a man close to your heart your style Calls things how he sees them Doesnt care who he offends or whose nose he puts out of joint in the process Much like yourself Yet you dont like him for being this way ?
