    Depends on quite a few factors but you can find out yours here;

Tell me I'm wrong on that too...

        Thanks for that.

        It was 19.01 Mbps.

6 I agree with Chook even though you may be right about IF most people need a speed of 100Mbps because I have to admit that what I have now I have no problem with. But I think mobile phones have way to many options but others want all the bells & whistles so it's the same as the net speed. If 100Mbps is available people want that, end of story.

I personally dont vote for Abbott but I think they have made a big mistake in what they have proposed for their NBN, Labour will make great grounds on the Libs over this issue IMO. Plus Julia has now got Australia dealing directly with China instead of having to go through a 3rd party another masterstroke leading into the elections.

I think that what most people are missing here is the way that technology (gadget/lifestyle wise) is advancing there will be an even bigger demand for faster speeds in the very near future.
Why lock yourself into something that is so short sighted.
For mine, go the whole hog & invest in the future.

People bang on about the cost.
Shall we talk about a few recent wars & the cost of those? For mine those are the REAL waste.

I asked why the majority of Australian's need faster speeds than that?

To put it into context of your answer, why do the majority of Australian's need to be simultaneously streaming more than several live streams at once?

The FTTN will provide most Australians with speeds of 100mbps.

3D TVs being are able to split streams at the moment 6, the tech to multiply that will be available soon. What happens when 100mps is not fast enough? What about 1000mps? Will it provide that speed as the NBN will.

The NBN as proposed by Labor will provide all Australians with affordable, effective infrastructure that will be needed, not wanted, but needed in the future as more and more services, events, entertainment and life in general goes online.

What Blabbott and his cadre of clowns are proposing will satisfy the morons till the end of the election cycle.

              Chook.

I'm not going to argue that the FTTN is superior to FTTP in performance, no one is that stupid.

What I am questioning is whether it's worth paying all this money to build the infrastructure for homes that wont even fully utilise its capabilities.

Most Australians wont be able to pay for plans that support simultaneous downloading and streaming of 3D movies like you suggest. Their internet would be shaped after a week or two and they'd be back to using dial up speeds.

I understand businesses who have legitimate claims to needing the download and more importantly superior uploading speeds but there's nothing saying they can't pay the couple of thousand it'll cost to get Fiber to the premises.

I'm honestly not fussed either way, both have their pros and cons but this thought process that FTTN will be totally useless is flawed. For most Australians it will be ridiculously more than adequate.

You're still yet to convince me that the majority of Australia needs FTTP.

I can see why the NBN didn't extend your internship, you cannot think outside the box.

                  http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/tec...1226620934033#

What about a smart fridge that scans barcodes on the items you use and advises when they are out of date. The fridge also compiles a shopping list based on usage and sends that list off to woolies at a predetermined time and date and poof, your groceries appear at your doorstep.

What about getting up not feeling well and logging onto an online medical forum where you speak to a doctor face to face and he can take your temp, BP, give you a diagnosis and email you a script and medical certificate.

Face to face video links will replace phone calls.
                  Remote Home security.
With voice recognition you'll be able to start heaters and air conditioners remotely from your car as you're heading home.

That's just some ideas off the top of my head. Think outside the box 6, the NBN is not all about downloads and uploads. It's about building infrastructure that can allow us to take advantage of what's yet to come.

20 years ago a 56K moderm did the job, what will do the job 20 years from now, certainly not Blabbotts NBN.

                  Chook.

You should settle for just plain "thinking" Chook before you consider outside the box lol.

And lol @ Chook at been totally owned by Rooster_6 in this thread.

What a 5 star thread for these facts alone.

Are you trying to say your current speeds is equal to the top fibre speed of 100mbps?

Anyways by the time labore finishes implementing the whole NBN, fibre to the house won't be your concern as it will be more like fibre to the grave. Perhaps you can enjoy your porn from 6 feet under and get a stiffy there.

Does anyone else hear a low whinning sound?

It sounds like a lose exhaust fan on your PC or that sound a retard makes when they try and talk.

It's pointlessly annoying but I'll guess I'll just learn to ignore it.

There it is again, a strange little whinny sound. Like a bug that desperately needs to be be squashed.

Oh well, I'll just assume it'll go away and kill itself in some suitable way. No one would miss it that's for sure.
