I have been running a version of Windows 7 for some time now Jim and I can tell you that it is excellent given hardware new and or powerful enough to run it well. For example, I freshly installed Vista on a computer and it was running poorly but when I freshly installed 7 on it, the computer ran much much better. It uses less RAM than Vista whilst in operation and is really what Vista should have been all along.

Another thing I would add is that if you are currently using Windows XP and have no experience with Vista, the move to Windows 7 will require some acclimatisation as the GUI is quite different and some things have been moved, changed or renamed so that what was once second nature now requires readjustment.

Windows 7 has no email client, is that right? By installing it, does it mean you have reinstall all the other applications on it as well?

Yes, that's right John, they've ditched Windows Mail in 7 but you can use Windows Live Mail instead and if you are doing an in place upgrade from Vista to 7, Windows Live Mail will seamlessly import all your previous Windows Mail settings.

To answer your second question, if you do an in place upgrade from Vista, you won't need to re-install all the other applications. The upgrade programme may flag some applications it will have trouble with but otherwise it will just happily allow those pre-existing applications to run under 7.

Here is a link to Windows Live Mail for those interested ...

Now that we have moved on to Windows 10, I actually wish we could go back to Windows 7. The accessibility features of the latter were much better. Anyway, that is called progress, apparently!

I hear you! I have upgraded at work, but am still on it at home too. Not looking forward to it to be honest. I will have to deal with the upgrade to the NBN soon as well. I am receiving so many conflicting reports of what is best to do in that regard, it is becoming nearly as confusing as the Latrell saga.
