  • Question re Foxtel IQ2

Now as most here would know I am not a technical expert on electronic gizmos and gadgets, so come here to get common sense answers to my inane questions.

I am considering getting Foxtel IQ2, primarily because I'd like to sign up to the HD channel, espec the Sports ones.

It would also make the most of my HD TV, which I can't do at the moment because my internal electrical wiring is not up to it - it works intermittently but not often enough for my liking. And because I live in a townhouse complex, they are planning to update the wiring in all the townhouses at the same time, but there's no current timetable to do it.

I know that the IQ2 set top box will record into its hardrive? for me (told you I wasn't technical) but could I still record programmes through my DVD recorder if I want to specifically keep them on DVD and not take the chance of them being recorded over (ie; footy games)??

    Appreciate your advice, as always.

I do realise that the TV, Foxtel IQ2 and DVD recorder would all have to be connected and set up to interact together, and I assume Foxtel will attend to that when they instal the IQ2.

I used to have my std foxtel box set up to my DVD/HDD recorder and it recorded fine.
Some stuff it didn't due to macrovision (an encryption service used especially on movies).

So if you connect your IQ2 up to your DVD recorder, either by component (yesllow, white and red cables) or HDMI ( the hidef type connector).

Then select the input, probably AV1 it will go ok.

As stated they do have encryption on some channels which stuffs up DVD and external hard disc recorders, however as far as I am aware this is only on the movie channels and the pay per view stuff.

I have IQ2 at home and it is freaking awesome. Just got a whole bunch of new HD channels that they launched a couple days ago.

Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated.

Will definitely be getting IQ2 before next footy season.

I don't tend to tape movies anyway so that's not a problem. I don't have any of the movie channels on Foxtel - I basically have the subscription for the sports, music and news channels.

If I could, I would pay $30 per month to have only the sports channels.....

Those documentary channels keep me up at night learning about the origins of salt when I should be in bed
