  • Last night pork and chive dumplings, prawn and scallop dumplings, deep fried eggplant with lime and soy sauce then went really retro and had sweet and sour chicken, bloody good feed from Dumpling Time on Enmore rd apart from one of our dishes going to the wrong table meaning a longer wait between courses.

Thinking of beef stir fry tonight.

My father worked with a Greek man and his mother would cook up a storm, we would often go to their place, sometimes it was either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day evening and the home made spread was amazing, she made her own dolmades, taramasalata, octopus, squid, mussels and also i remember she made fish cocktails, the coating on them were amazing, it was great being exposed to many of the Greek/ Mediterranean style dishes when i was young.

Totally underated fish the gar fish and they are yum to eat, fairly easy to debone with the old milk bottle or rolling pin trick. Used to catch a few when we went on holidays to Evans Head off the co op wharf, used to call them beakies back then.
