Lol about the marsala, think the first alcoholic drink i had besides a KB was marsala and coke, i am horrified at the thought of drinking it with coke now/. At home now i use it mainly to marinate strawberries in for desert or chuck some in the spag bol sauce instead of red wine, i don't mind making a sauce with it when having veal but haven't made that for a long time.
We used to have ice-cream in a block ( wrapped in cardboard) as well from the ice cream truck that used to come around - Neapolitan. - plus single or double cones dipped in chocolate for a treat.

My Mother used to purchase all types of frozen foods from a company called permanent pantry - it came with a freezer - The freezer still works some 50 odd years later - we are still using it.

I don't think we had grocery type shops out our way and every second weekend we would go into Sydney - David Jones - where I assume groceries were purchased that Permanent Pantry didn't supply -we would have a pie, chips and peas for lunch as a treat.

When we went to Oran Park for the racing we would always have KFC afterwards - I remember seeing Giacomo Agostini race at Oran Park - I think he was world champion at the time ?- Big Crowd - Motor Bikes/Sidecars and vehicles would race there - Also going to Granville Speedway on a regular basis

That was Tuesday’s dinner for us.

Tonight is a savoury mince pie, an old recipe of my dad’s.

            • I had spagetti bolognaise tonight with a couple of beers.
I had a ripper of a meal on Thursday night it was my beautiful daughters 30th birthday & we went to the revolving restaurant in Centre Point Tower, I had been there once before around 25 years ago but it was so special on Thurday night. For those that havnt been there save your dollars up & get a window seat $130 per person & enjoy the smorgasbord of seafood, roast meats, pastas, Asian & Indian food then try & fit in some sweets. The views are sensational. Its well worth it.

Had the left over for dinner last night also, just had to cook a bit of extra rice but plenty of the curry left. Tonight was tuna cannelloni which i started making after watching the Shute Shield semi between Easts and Warringah so would have on the table before the Swans game, the cannelloni was yummy and enough left over again for another dinner( and i did have seconds )

Where is you local Chinese Salvo ? despite all the wonderful food options we have in the Newtown area we do sadly lack one of those old fashion suburban Chinese restaurants that most suburbs have.
Did have a great one locally called Good Wok in St Peters but they moved out to Revesby in 2017

Some of my favourite Chinese dishes there Salvo. I do prefer a lemon chicken though and sweet & sour pork. But a good old Chinese fried rice is my favourite of all.

                    • I remember going to BBQ King Chinese resteraunt with a few mates in Sydney a few years ago . The Sang Choy Bow was amazing ! It was the best Chinese I've ever had! Sadly it closed a few years ago apparently.

I so miss our local Chinese which was a Friday night regular for a long while. Would often share a bigger bowl of short soup, they had a $5 size or a $7 size and the $7 one was perfect to share and have steamed dim sims and or prawn cutlets for entree/ starters. Mains i would almost order the bbq pork in plum sauce which was nice but not to sweet and the chicken with mushrooms which was on the menu but one day they got the order slightly mixed up and they gave us a chicken and mushroom hot pot which wasn't on the standard menu but on a picture menu above the kitchen, the hot pot was by far the superior of the two chicken/ mushroom dishes so i'm glad they made the mistake and we always ordered that one after that.
I find if we go to a Western style Chinese restaurant that we don't know i find i will order chicken and cashew nuts as a safe bet and the better half will either go beef in black bean sauce or Mongolian lamb.

A Vietnamese restaurant opened in place of local Chinese and while i like many of their dishes, they do good rice paper rolls, chicken wings, salt and pepper mushrooms, sang choy bow and also a nice sweet and sour pork i find i just miss that general western style comfort Chinese food that Good Wok did.

That’s it isn’t it. It’s just great comfort food.
