I think the thing i was most looking forward to on our cancelled trip was the Scotland leg as i have not been since 1993, friends yesterday sent us photos as they were boarding the Hogswart Express , will get to Scotland again but not planning anything at the moment.

    Sounds like some places still have the good deals on, when we were in London in 2000 one of the local chemist chains had similar deals of a sandwich or wrap with water and a snack or a piece of fruit which was great value when the Australian dollar was worth about 48-50 pence, another thing we did was a couple of times load up at the Pizza Hut all you can eat buffet which worked out good value back then and was filling.
    The trip in 2011 the exchange rate was much better and you could pick up a great pub feed for about the same price at home, usually landing around $14 Aus dollars, sometimes a bit less but rarely even hitting the $20 mark, love the lunches the British pub provide. Of course the exchange rate is back in the toilet again so not sure how prices would stack up today. Oh dear about the peas, i love peas and also like the mushy version, just wish some of the fish shops would do it here more, seems to happen here more with pie dinners.

    Enjoy the rest of the trip and i hope the weather fines up for you but it seems like you are getting typical Scottish weather while you are there.
    Great day today and we nearly got four seasons every hour never mind day! Also, I tried a small piece of haggis at breakfast. Surprisingly it didn’t taste too bad but I decided one small mouthful was enough given I can’t forget what it is. And yes, that’s exactly how I felt after the first flight to Singapore landed.

      Haha...I was wondering if you would try haggis. I certainly wouldn't ( very unadventurous culinarily).

      Thinking of Scotland, I remember one of my favourite comedy characters, Ray McCooney. The Little Britain guys at their best.

        Very funny man When my Daughter was a baby she’d ask me a question and laugh hysterically when I’d answer if you asked me on Monday I’d say Yessssss

        Now back on topic The other day she asked if I thought Trump would win the election So I answered if you asked me on a Monday I’d say yessssss

            There aren't many things that i wouldn't probably try at least once but Haggis is one i wouldn't try, tripe also. Have you come across black pudding in any of the breakfasts yet ? I'm so glad i was exposed to it when i was young and liked eating it a long time before i knew what it really was, that was one of the things i was looking forward to in Scotland and England ( not every day of course ).

              • Slow cooked corned silverside with onions, peppercorns,bay leaves, cloves, malt vinegar carrots and garlic cheese parsley, mashed spuds. Served with steamed brussell sprouts, zucchini, beans and a home made cheese sauce . Go the Roosters on Friday !!

                  My mum cooked tripe, reluctantly, for my dad when I was a kid . I loved it in a cheese sauce. I didn't know what it was though. Garlic butter fried and crumbed lambs brains are delicious too with a tomato sauce.

                    I had forgotten about lamb brains, another thing i cannot get past the thought of eating them. my mother used to love them. Mum used to love lambs fry to, have to admit i don't like a lot of it a but a little bit i do enjoy every now and then.

                      Trust me it was only a wee small taster. The other half added it to his B&B breakfast order so we didn’t have to pay extra for it elsewhere as it was already part of our accommodation fee. He also ordered sausage and I wondered if he would end up with black pudding but it was normal sausage. I’m trying M&S special Gastro Dine-in lasagne tonight. M&S is really fancy compared to the other supermarkets it seems.

                          I’ve never actually heard of him before. But I do love a lot of the old British comedies. They don’t make classic TV like that these days. Back on topic, the lasagne was good.

                            Last night was roast pork with roast potatoes, carrot, parsnip, eschalot, garlic and peas, crackling came out perfect, left overs of that for tomorrow nights dinner.
