Haven't heard of Trevi either but my local Nelson bay Italian restaurant does a superb Gamberi pizza with garlic prawns and feta , damn good .! Chicken Kiev, corn, peas, choko (it's really very good) and cheesy chive mashed potato on the menu here tonight at the Kelty club Marlin bar .

The Trevi isn't always on the menu where i order from Made In Italy, they have a rotating special pizza each month which isn't on their regular menu. Love a good Gamberi .

Gamberi is usually just prawn, chilli and often a lot of rocket, i don't mind a bit of rocket but i have seen some places drown them with it, Made In Italy where i got them from last night don't put rocket on them.

FWIW I went to primary school with a contestant (Austinmer Public School in the Gong). She called out to me when I was walking down Oxford st (didn't recognise her or really remember her as I had a shyte time at that school and we weren't friends... same year and classes but zero connection).

I said hi, had a bit of a chat (went on for ~30 mins as she was super interested), exchanged numbers (she was VERY keen to 'stay' in touch) and I tried adding her on Facebook after this. She then sent me a long, HEAVILY worded message along the lines of 'leave me the fark alone... stop stalking me just because I'm famous'. I was like woooah... YOU were the one who recognised me and suggested we remain in touch. Also I have NFI what you do for a living!!!! Didn't realise you were a major celebrity. But fine, whatevz really.

Curious, I Googled her and was like 'oh right... she got knocked out in the early rounds of some kitchen show and is now a sommelier at some semi-fancy restaurant. Power to her'.

Anyhow, that's my single dealing with somebody from one of those cooking shows (which I don't watch).

Oh and I met Zumbo a few weeks ago at one of his high teas at the QT. He was pretty awesome... wish his shops were still around as I love sweet stuff.
Zumbo’s deserts are great. The Canberra pair I talk of were on in 2015. First contestants eliminated that season. One of the tactics the producers used was to force them to shop at a Coles which was 30 minutes away from their actual home where they hosted their dinners. It was a way of stressing them out by reducing the time they had to prepare their meals. They would also use other tactics to add to the drama. I can’t remember all the details now as it was a long time ago. But they eventually set up their own cafe in Manuka.

I am still scarred from pumkin potato mash from my child hood, mum used to call it golden potato, neither my sister or i would eat it and it was even more horrid when it went cold.
My sister still wont eat pumpkin to this day, i will eat pumpkin every now and then but its not close to my favourite vegetable but golden potato is banned in my house hold.

Ah the much maligned choko , used to have a vine growing next door to our place at Paddington and used to love picking but mum would just boil them them and put a bit of butter on them, they were horrid that way but i have to admit i do love a good chock pickle. Don't see many of the old choko vines growing around like they were in the 70 s and 80 s now but the Asian grocer at work sells them and i have seen them in Coles the odd time to.

We had a sizeable block of land so anything that would grow would be grown - trouble was it was much more than what could be eaten - even for 13 of us.

Chokos was one thing - way too many - My Mother used to put the excess in boxes out the front of our house with a sign " Free Chokos" - hardly any were ever taken.

My Mother used to cut the Chokos up into chip size portions - put them in batter which also contained spices and fry them - when boiled you had to put butter on the Choko and plenty of pepper - A couple of the Brothers would put Mustard on the Choko as they were pretty bland taste wise by themselves

                              • Can’t say I’ve ever tried choko. But I did eat brussel sprouts growing up. They tasted a whole lot better with lots of butter.
