    • Beef stroganoff , using bigger beef chunks so its more like a casserole and using Greek yoghurt instead of sour cream, going to serve it with steamed chat potatoes, carrots, beans and zucchini.

Thanks Crab. I do add some fruit chutney which contains some sultanas but I don’t add any extra. Also, lots of apple and carrots, plus celery and onions. Some great meals tonight in Chookpen homes.

I love apple in the curries, i will sometime put sultana in but only i don't put the apple in. I have a home made hot peach chutney from a friend up the coast, i should try it in a curry sometime,
Stroganoff is simmering away beautifully, the bit i sampled so far is yum.

I love a good stroganoff. I’ll be interested to hear how the Greek yoghurt went.

The last couple of times i have made it i have used the Greek yoghurt and i love it as it feels much lighter than sour cream, this time was the first time i made it in the chasseur pot and the beef actually cooked more evenly and i could simmer the dish so much better and the flavour in the sauce i feel was more subtle and refined, have enough left over now, more sauce than beef and will have it with pasta another night, may just add some more mushrooms to it, actually looking forward to making it in chasseur again and may just add more beef next time, used 750 gm this time but will make it with about a kilo next time. Actually feel very satisfied how it came out to tonight which is more than i can say about that football game.

                    • Wedding last night. Some sorta pumpkin tart and a barramundi dish. Lotsa bubbly and beers...

Time for a 34km run now. Off to Japan tomorrow to see my daughter so I dare say I'll cook up some Aussie steaks tonight, then have a week of all my favourite Japanese grub.

I went through a period where I slow cooked stroganoff in a pot or slow cooker and it made the meat so tender. I’ve since gone back to the traditional method of quick stir frying on high heat, trying my best to cut the meat into even sized strips and it is hard to get everything to cook evenly that way. I like the idea of using Greek yoghurt. I generally don’t put in too much sour cream though as it does make the sauce too rich and heavy.

Tonight is honey soy chicken drumsticks and some steamed veggies and rice.

They had the thinly sliced stroganoff beef at the butcher but i actually prefer a bit thicker casserole cut beef when i do the stroganoff, i usually do in the tefal pan but our good one one finally gave up the ghost after many years of good service, we have similar style pans but they are smaller so decided to try the chasseur for it this time until we get a bigger pan again..

Tonight just got some extra mushrooms and going to have the left over sauce with pasta.
Last night it was the good old lamb meatballs and risoni
