Reminds me of one of my elder brothers - who was undertaking a technical officer cadetship through Telecom and residing in Goulburn as that was where the training college was - He had board and lodgings in Goulburn at a married couples residence - The husband asked him if he liked lambs fry for breakfast - he said yes thinking it was lamb chops or something like that.

Took him almost 2 weeks to pluck up the courage to say that he didn't really like it - No Problems the Husband said I'll get the Misses to cook Bacon and Eggs instead or if you prefer cereal or porridge.

He was saying he had to cut it up into the smallest pieces possible and swallow it without chewing -had numerous cups of tea to wash it down with.

Not a fan of offal at all

No Salvo, but I did have some great mash and slow cooked lamb shank at Makars Mash Bar tonight. I can’t get my head around the idea of eating deep fried Mars Bar. Eww.

Yes, I was tossing up between the beef and the lamb and eventually chose the lamb. I went with the bacon and spring onion mash. I also had sticky toffee pudding for dessert. I don’t normally do dessert but I couldn’t resist and it didn’t disappoint. I was wishing we were staying another night so I could try the beef and some of the other items on their menu next time.

We saw Whitby Abbey ruins at the top of the hill, one of the landmarks which inspired Dracula. We just walked around the outside though and took photos from over the wall as we didn’t want to pay the entry fee as we were there as part of a tour group and had limited time.

                          • Chicken rissoles with garlic mash, steamed broccoli, carrot and zucchini. Used the left over gravy from last night for the rissoles.

                            • Had a buffet at Disneyland last night (with all the characters going from table to table). Was pretty awesome.

Gotta say, my experience of France has been way better than I was expecting.

How do I say? ALL my private school friends seemed to travel to France for a term aged ~15, come back speaking 1 or 2 French words (with an overly indulgent 'accent' - which sounds nothing like any French person I've met), learn how to smoke ciggies (oooh how sophisticated, ya twit!) and give me longwinded recollections of how 'magical the sites and sounds of Pariiiii [which isn't how locals pronounce it?] are). They'd then later propose to their high school sweetheart while over there and it all just seemed so frigging cliche to me!!!

I'm not mesmerised by France. However the food, service and culture of the place has been enjoyable. I think full enjoyment requires a nicotine addiction and capacity to hang-out in a laneway cafe until 2am sipping various French wines/cocktails. However as one who's not exactly a fan of the pro-durry/vape culture (despite regularly fantasising about pulling out a Dannemann cigar - possibly as a homage to Cold Chisel), it's been a pretty solid experience.

Ironically one of our best meals (today) was put the back of durry vendor. We were tired so walked in (after not going to various other places due to the abundance of durry munchers) and went into this place. It had a full wall of durries and vapes, then family booths behind it so it seemed almost farcical when I asked 'is this no smoking?' The lady was like 'oh yeah this is all no smoking'. Sweet. Out rolled various entrees/mains/desserts, with house-sized servings of wine for yours truely (I swear it's 100x stronger in France!!! That or they water everything down in 'Straya). All up it was about AUD $100 for a massive family sized, 3 course meal with multiple (house sized) drinks.

I get that the exchange rate s*x but TBH my experience with England/France has been that it's about the same price as it would be to eat out in 'Straya for every meal. Give or take but people act as if everything's twice as much, which hasn't been my experience. For example no restaurant in Australia's gonna pour a large glass of wine to the brim and charge me $8-15 for it. They'll pour me a glass of watered down Aldi wine to just below that bloody one 'STANDARD' drink line and then charge $15 for their scientific measuring skills.
