      • Back from a few weeks off, some food highlights if people are in these areas.

Byron bay-fish heads, beautiful lightly battered fish and chips, and seafood chowder.

Broadbeach- gemelli Italian, always great, pork and veal shank ragu, spaghetti marinara, all house made pasta, really is some of the best Italian I’ve eaten.

We had the set menu for NYE and everything was great.

mermaid beach- Bam Bams bakery, went for a walk and found this place for breakfast, we ended up going there 4 mornings in a row

bah mi egg&bacon rolls, eggs Benedict on croissants, cinnamon cruffins, Nutella biscuits, the place was packed everyday, but they turned people over pretty quickly.

clovelly for a couple nights. So wandered down to Coogee to some of the places I’ve mentioned before, but Johnny Gio’s deserves a mention, good pizza, and the truffle Mac n cheese is really tasty, and a massive serve.

drove to Cronulla heading back to Canberra, went for a swim so decided to stay an extra night, could only find accommodation in Hurstville, looked like a pretty new Travelodge, it was cheap($170) but the rooms were really clean, big and very modern, there was a sushi place at the bottom of it(niji sushi bar) ordered the degustation and was really impressed. Kingfish carpaccio, spicy tuna canapés, miso scallops, wagyu skewers, lobster tempura and the desert selection, were just SOME of the standouts.

Back in Canberra and time to drop some kgs now

            Have you been fishing lately?
Have been itching to have a fish in Sydney since i got back from up the coast and was going to check my favourite wharf in the harbour to have a fish off the other day but was reading it was closed for repairs so i checked the Transport for NSW site and indeed it is closed indefinitely so will have to suss out another spot, i just want somewhere to drop the handline in for a few leatherjackets, have a few other spots in mind but not as convenient as my favourite wharf.

            • Carnitas tacos
Salt pepper, oregano, cumin and olive oil mixed and rubbed into pork shoulder
toss in some jalapinos , garlic and a couple of squeezed Oranges into a slow cooker for 8 hours.
shred then fry off to make it crispy.

              thank me later

It's great to try new locations imo. There was a time when we'd fish Sydney Harbour 2/3 times a week in the Tinny. We made it a rule that we'd try 1 new random spot every outing and we discovered some great fishing holes that way.

                Tight lines.

When i was younger i used to love trying out new spots all around the Harbour but found this one spot i would have a great strike rate and also a good variety of fish so this became my regular spot although there were a couple of other spot i would go to including a nice low rock at Balls Head, the track down to rock has been closed for many years now due to land slips, should try and check it out again one day just in case they may have re opened it but i doubt whether they would have. It was the most peaceful place, it would only be me or sometimes my brother and just the odd boat going past.

Hermitage Reserve my little secret spot when I felt like a quiet fish. We'd often camp there and joke about the boys from scum valley living it up amongst the rich and famous.

My father took me and my brother fishing somewhere along the Hermitage foreshore way back , think it was around 1974 or 75, i remember it wasn't far from a big school or convent where we fished, my father said there would be bream, trevally and maybe some small snapper, don't think we even lost a bait there and i can remember a lot of kelp around. Was the first time from memory i had fished the harbour as my father would take us fishing up the north coast on holidays. I didn't start exploring the harbour for fishing by myself till around 1979/1980.
