Yes that bus stop was near A Taste of India- which was in Double Bay for over 25 years. A real shame it's gone- i was there the night Madonna was a walk in for dinner.

Bellevue Hill is home since 2013 but it was Double Bay i worked and lived in since 1992. I've seen so many food places come and go like The Snitzel House, Cosmo, Dee Bee's, Fish Face, Salt, Pink Salt, The Swiss Deli, Taste of Europe, Double Bay Steakhouse. Geez even Georges, Bottocelli's and Eliza's was around when i moved to Double Bay.

Ive heard that Monkey King Thai is good - i ll try it out next couple of weeks- i dont really frequent Old South Head Rd much. You recommend anything else?

I'm actually Bankstown born and bred so despite being of Italian background i grew up with Leb mates and food.Actually i rate Lebanese food just ahead of Greek

    • The chicken is delicious and the risoni with the red capsicum and olives is melt in your mouth. Roast carrot and zucchini are just beautiful with it

Thanks for your message RR and I remember all of those places you mentioned. I've been in the area since 2002 (great year that!) apart from one year in Melbourne. The food from Monkey King Thai is fresh and delicious. The Laguna Street shops up at Vaucluse have great eateries and I saw Mini in the sushi place one Friday night. My friend takes her daughter there and I've seen another neighbour with her daughter there too. Family friendly places and you'll always bump into Roosters fans too.. I get my pizzas delivered from Made In Italy but I often do make my own with gluten free Lebanese bread. Its funny I spent a lot of my school holidays around Campsie, Roselands and Bankstown when I would come to Sydney to visit my grandmother. I cook mostly Italian at home with my stockpot of tomatoes, olives, mushrooms, any sort of legume, chilli and a bit of gluten free pasta thrown in but my background is Lebanese..but I don't eat meat or wheat so really don't enjoy the cuisine..there is one dish we do though with stuffed zucchini with a tomato and rice filling that's very good for Lent.

I don't go past Flavour of India at Edgecliff much on the bus these days as I only go into the office a few days a month but I always still think of Michael Hutchence. They have a sketch of him at the front of the restaurant. His father scattered his ashes at Rose Bay..RIP beautiful soul..

So you're Lebanese who cooks mostly Italian.....and i'm Italian who prefers to eat Lebanese hahaha. I don't eat Italian out because i cook it mostly at home for the family- although im mostly over pasta.

I was working in DB on the Saturday morning of Michael Hutchence death- i was one of those who gathered outside of the Ritz Carlton.

Fast forward to around 2010 and i knew the security guy who was hiring out rooms at the RC (on the sly!) and was able to get my brother a room for 8 months who was over from Perth for work- $100 a week-cash-no added expenses like water or electricity! Id go see him a few times a week-it was so eerie -minimal lighting and people coming and going through a side wooden door with a lock, that big staircase in the dark and the empty concierge desk and bellboy gold trolley- yet the lifts were fully operational. The owners of the building were based in the UK and had no idea that it was pretty much fully occupied because the electricity and water bills were being paid by the security guard doing the leasing.

We did go to Michael Hutchence suicide room- which had no number on it and was kept empty and locked- so we couldn't loot any memorabilia! I think the room is still used today for guests - but the number has changed from 524 to 534 ( or the other way around). INXS were never the same

Mum was born here but she did cook a lot of the dishes for Dad. If anything, I prefer fish, salad, olives etc so that would be called a Mediterranean diet I guess, which is the healthiest option. A friend had gone to Michael's room too after he had passed and she said the air was chilled and very very cold around her. I'd almost bought the gift shop underneath the RC back in 2007 but ended up opening my own at Charing Cross in 2008. Speaking of, we'd all go and get zucchini and haloumi fritters all the time from the cafe a few doors up from my shop. I used to like the corn ones too from Mickey's Cafe in Paddington but they've closed down. Going to make my own this week like I posted previously, with goat's cheese, sweet potato, peas, corn and zucchini. I prefer to cook at home to be honest but Thai is my main home delivery option.

Yes INXS won't ever been the same and I feel the same about Queen. With all due respect to the singers who have continued the legacies of these great bands, we've been blessed to see some wonderful performers in our lifetime.

Charing Cross, there's a blast from the past!!! Didn't know the owner but I went out partying with one of their daughter's friends a few times. We regularly ended up crashing there after a night out as it's a very comfortable venue.

Arthur's and Mickey's were a couple of childhood favourites as that's closer to where I grew up. Many big life decisions have happened over a pizza in that part of town.

What's the best Lebanese joint in the area? I always think of Emad's (or this other place in Newie - forget the name but I went there for big birthdays as a kid since an ex's sister's Italian husband loved it... feeding into the vibe of Italians loving the Lebanese food). Never went but there was also an upstairs place on Oxford st Darlo.

INXS... could go on a tangent there as a friend's family were actively involved in their discovery (lotsa songs & videos were recorded in their old house). That's for another day though.

Is the place in Newtown Pasha's ? been there a long time and still going strong. Is Emads the one on Cleveland St, we had a work function there when i worked at the liquor warehouse in Waterloo and 4 out the 8 people got very sick after it. Fast forward till just a few years back and a friend had a big birthday party there, i was reluctant to go because of the previous time but the food was great this time.

We used to go to this place in Enmore, haven't been for a long while but it was very good, think they have shortened the menu now though looking at it.

LOL I have no idea as I don't eat meat, wheat, garlic or eggplant..

Actually the family rave about Lebanon & Beyond at Randwick..they take all the visitors there despite them all living out at Rosehill/Belmore way..

Yes please share your INXS stories as I'm interested..

I shared a view of my snow cakes on a work video call yesterday as I'm still home this week. But it's my turn to provide morning tea next week so I'll take in chocolate fudge cakes. I'd asked the team if they want frosting or plain...silly question..all the guys said "Frosting!"..One is a Roosters fan so let's hope we are still celebrating on Monday after Friday night..otherwise it's gonna take more than frosting..

I did also get a Donna Hay gluten free apple cinnamon crumble mix to make little cakes in the pie maker too.

                      • OMG my fritters are amazing..they are chock full of veges and great for breakfast too

The batter is 1 cup of self raising flour (I use gluten free), 3 eggs and a third of a cup of milk. Then just throw in whatever veges, cheese, olives, bacon or ham if you eat meat, herbs onions etc into it and cook in the pie maker for 15 mins.

                        Hardly any washing up either..

Good Morning Jack. I only discovered the recipe when I bought the cookbook to go along with the pie maker and then I found the original article online. An Australian lady had invented it and used the K-mart pie maker which is the most popular one. You just mix a vanilla cake mix with 300ml of lemonade and put it in the pie maker (I bought the 6 size one but you can get 4 or a family size one if you want to actually make pies ) and it turns out little cakes which you just then sandwich together with the frosting (I put strawberries and blackberries in mine as I like to be healthy ) and you can dust them with icing sugar ( I skip that part as they are very sweet as it is). I just used the Coles gluten free vanilla cake mix with the lemonade (which I don't normally drink, so I've kept the rest of the bottle for the next recipe) and it turned out these lovely little vanilla cakes. I've bought the White Wings chocolate gluten free mix to do for work on Monday and I'll take along some strawberries to go with it. I also bought the Donna Hay apple and cinnamon crumble mix as I mentioned before to try another time. It's Coeliac Awareness week so most supermarkets have a lot of gluten free products on special for 2 weeks every year in March, so this is when I stock up the pantry. This is my first time trying cakes though as I only bought the pie maker last month. I prefer the savoury dishes like the fritters or frittata myself.

This article has a great photo of the original snow cakes:
