Was the first time i had cooked goat, seeing the chops were very thick I made sure nothing else was on the bbq and it was hot and did one side for about 10 mins then turned it and did the other side for 5 minutes then made sure the side bits got some heat on them to. Didnt have a clue what i was doing but it turned out perfect in the end. Want to hget a leg or shoulder of goat and try roasting it one day.

Sounds like you’re having a great break Horrie. Glad you got to cook some goat as you were mentioning it on here the other week.

Thanks MR, after the first afternoon of getting here with the torrential rain it has been great and the weather pretty decent. Yesterday checked out two butchers in Mona Vale, saw the curried lamb sausages in the window and thought great, there was another butcher nearby and they had some nice looking lamb and tomato rissoles but i thought they may be to dense for the BBQ, they also had some nice looking chicken, goat cheese and rocket sausages but i had my heart set on the curry lamb sausage so went back and got them and was going to get a piece of steak to have but saw the goat chops and thought here is my chance to cook something different and I really enjoyed them.

Nothing boring about beef tacos MR, a nice satisfying meal where you can get a good balance of salad vegetables in with the meat.
Tonight the better half was hell bent on having a margarita and I wasn't going to disagree, a few places here in Narrabeen where you get one, we decided on a place called JB and Sons and would have been happy to dine there with the full American style menu but inside the music was to loud for the small dining space and outside where we sat although pleasant would have been to dark to eat the food, still it was pleasant to sit outside having the margaritas, we both had two, then ended up going to place closer to where we were staying called Joe's pizza, it was having a relaunch in a new venue and tonight was its re opening night so managed to secure a table there and shared two decent pizzas between us , it ended up being a very pleasant night.
Tomorrow is an open book but if the weather stay decent thinking about some sort of seafood and maybe some of the chicken sausages I saw in Mona Vale, if the weather is crap take away Chinese or Vietnamese just up the hill at Warriwood might fill the bill.

Agreed... IMO the idea of dinner is to relax, cook something that's not too involved/pretentious and enjoy the company.

I love doing a simple barbie on the weekend because I can just chuck a heap of stuff on the cooker, pile all our condiments onto the table, smash a few beers, chat with my wife/son for hours (plus play games...etc) and enjoy life.

Tacos? Perfect plan! Doubt anybody's gonna be upset about beef tacos for dinner.

Sounds like a good plan. I’m looking forward to our traditional prawns and fish & chips on Good Friday. As well as hot cross buns.
And yes tacos is one of our family favourites. Nice and easy. I guess boring is the wrong word. I should have meant simple and easy as everyone can add there own salads and veggies to them.

Yeah they’re one of those easy family meals aren’t they.

                  • Best of both worlds tonight, king prawns and Moreton Bay bugs, rice paper rolls with prawn and chicken in them and salt and pepper chicken wings.

Bugs were great, prawns were a bit meh but still edible guy said they would be nice and salty so picked them over the farmed tiger prawns , having a break till the rice paper rolls and chicken wings, just nice sitting out on the veranda with a glass of bubbles, listening to the waves breaking and the full moon rising

I find when i do a BBQ at home I'm cooking a more vege component than meat, if i was cooking steak I would usually cook two pieces but often I would look at the size of the steak and think one piece would easily feed two so these days I do a lot more veges, especially potato and zuchinni, not the biggest lamb fan but enjoy lamb steaks done on the BBQ, the goat was good the other night. Always toss a splash of beer on the onions which gives me a good excuse to have a beer when BBQing

Interesting! What are your preferred veggies?

I generally do corn and broccolini as my BBQ veg. However, I mostly like BBQs for adding smoke/charred flavours to meats and cooking up the fat so that it gets a little crispy. Thus, my BBQs have a lot of sausages, wings and slow cooked meats (e.g. briskets / lamb). That or a few barramundi.

Zucchini is my favourite on the BBQ now, in the old day it would be 75% meat and probably only mushroom , tomato and onion but started doing sliced potato on it then the zucchini, so its mainly zucchini, potato, mushrooms, tomato and onion now, i sometimes do corn either in the husk or wrapped in foil, i am going to experiment with eggplant one day. I only have an electric sunbeam BBQ at home as i only have tiny balcony so a bit limited in doing things but meat wise there is always some type of sausage and either a piece of steak or lamb steaks. I do actually have a weber in storage in the back laundry and have been tempted to bring it out and do a piece of lamb in it but its finding the space to set it up where i can leave it alone so its not in the way of the cars up the back.
