I think Mondelēz International owns TANG.. They also bought Cadbury out in 2010. Mondelēz International owns Nabisco and essentially Kraft food brands amongst their portfolio.

I find it appalling that religious organisations aren't expected to pay tax - religion shouldn't be seen as being above the law.

Every business should pay tax - no matter where their money comes from. And these days, religion is a business and a profitable one at that.

Same goes for charities - some of the waste and rorting that goes on some not for profit organisations is appalling. They can all pay their bloody way.

Packer paid the same amount of tax as a McDonald's employee, big business head honchos rarely pay tax because they have ways around it.

I wouldn't see it right with the salvos or the smith family paying tax, even if they are cheating the system.

Hey NC, go and spend a few days/nights with some of these so called rorters feeding the homeless, helping those who have fallen on hard times and been forgotten by society. You will have your eyes opened.

Tootsie, while there are many fantastic people involved in these organisations, I am good friends with people who have at some time worked for some of charitable organisations in the 'back office' and they have opened my eyes to the fact that donations are not always used in the manner that they should be.

So much so that they now refuse to donate to them, on the basis that there is no guarantee that the donation will be used as it should.

I don't see why they should not pay some sort of company tax, even at a reduced rate.

Get rid of the FBT concessions for charities and PBI's and you will see more money used for the purposes of the institutions/charities.

There needs to be a system in place ie

Salvos collect 5 million they donate the 5 million back to the public in need then its zero tax
but when u have hill song collecting hundreds of millions and they declare 7 million something is up
when u have these 7th day adventist going into buisness racking up millions and they present 7 star lavish offices that needs to be taxed
when u have the catholic church (the biggest land owner on the planet) something is wrong

The money they redistribute back to the public should be tax free the rest needs to get hit hard.

I would just like to walk through Martin Place without someone shoving something aggressive in my face for a charity. I'm not referring to the special days when the likes of the Starlight Foundation or Canteen have their designated days in the city as those people are delightful to deal with (I've done it myself and it's a bit stressful sometimes, so I am always polite, especially to the school children) but its the everyday ones who attack you. I give to my chosen church and charity out of my pay plus donate clothes and beauty products to a women's charity where I know they will be used. I agree with NC's comments as how much money is spent on fancy marketing and promotional material? I donated once to a certain charity and they then sent me a very expensive looking welcome pack with all sorts of useless collateral. I'd rather the money went straight to the children who needed it. It was very off putting to say the least.

That's right you work near me so you understand. It gives those charities a bad name. They used to loiter outside our building near Bar 333 as we are close to Barrack Street and one guy confronted me so aggressively and started saying sleazy things to me in Spanish. I had to step into the gutter on George Street to avoid him and I was actually scared by him so I told him to eff off. Anyone who knows me really well will know I hate that sort of language, let alone use it on the street, but he really shook me up. That was about a year ago now but I will never forget it.
