Chook.
Clearly you are not a spiritual man.
It comes as no surprise to me.
The benefits of religion and spirituality are in principal to do with a believers inner world.
I think naieve atheists have a belief that anyone who has some belief in anything other than materialism means that we are all interventionist type fools.
No belief in a God an stop a bullet from a madman.
Any believer with half a clue knows this.barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

Is god willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent!
Is god able, but not willing?
Then he is molevolent.
Is god both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is god neither able nor willing?
Then why call him god?
That's a quote from Epicurus and makes more sense to me than all the religious dogma ever written about god. And goes to the very heart of my question. If god cannot prevent a single madman from squezzing the trigger and in doing so protecting his leading human on Earth, why should anyone whorship him?
Sooner or later human beings will realise there is no such thing as god, in any form. And that will be a grand awakening for the betterment of all humanity.

How can you blame something or someone that doesn't exist for being responsible? That's the logic of a madman chook, be careful with that gun. Maybe it's the lepricorns.

Chook.
It will indicate that mankind has finally gown up and can stand on its own without the need of the crutch called religion.
Pretty much every charity has some religious affiliation and then there is many schools and hospitals established because of religion. Yep, all religion is bad chook. What are we gonna do with all those empty religious buildings chook?
As trewhella mentioned, "free will" solves your riddle.

We have seen societies without religion, Communism (e.g. stalin, lenin, pol pot etc), the french revolution etc etc. Yep, fine examples of humanity and growing up.

However, I most certainly do blame religion and mankinds belief in a god, as even you can't deny many of the worlds current and past woes are as a result of religious extremists.
We have seen countries deeply religious haven't we Rocky, Aphganistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, America, all choc full of pious, ignorant morons bent on creating thier own version of utopia.
And what riddle are you talking about?
