This is my first post, on a non-footy topic. I promise to post on footy soon.
I have studied Australian political history in detail over the years, both at uni & as a hobby.
If you are interested in learning more about Gough & his government, the definitive account is by Paul Kelly & is called 'November 1975'. It is a fascinating read, & without a doubt one of the best political history books I've read.
Kelly has memorably described the 1975 crisis as being motivated by Fraser grabbing for power dressed as a man of principle.
Gough was a truly great orator, a man of vision but a terrible administrator. He was also let down badly by some incompetent ministers.
He did a lot of good for Australia & was a politician genuinely interested in helping people. RIP Gough.

The last good Prime Minister we had. The rest have been scared to say and do the right thing in case it's thought of as the wrong thing.
As people have said, he was a great ideas man and a brilliant orator of those ideas. He was hamstrung by being beholden to the rotting carcass of the hard left that produced gems like Lance Barnard, Lionel "My little mate" Murphy and Al Grassby and he had to put them in his cabinet.
I believe a lot of the mystique about Gough would have been avoided if there were no dismissal.SUPER DRAGON!

if there was no dismissal several things would have occurred , 1 the country would be broke? but howard gave away our gold reserves for s song later anyway but more importantly the country would be a much fairer place socially with a better educated list of unemployed? wed all probably be conversing in Latin or ancient greek instead?

A visionary way ahead of his time.
He was one of the last true gentlemen in politics…..the current crop of idiots could learn a lot from.

Shame his plans to nationalise the mining sector never came to fruition Australia would be one extremely wealthy country had he pulled this off.
Mind you had it happened im sure Howard would have sold out
