Anyone else watching this live now?

Looks like 2 men have taken about 10 people in the Lindt Cafe hostage, they're holding up an Islamic flag to the window.

Praying for the people inside right now.

    Yes. It's just unbelievable .

My daughter was in that cafe yesterday.

I hope to God the hostages get out alive.

Opera house has just been evacuated now as well after a suspicious package was found, hopefully just the police just being overly-cautious.

Thoughts and Prayers for the hostages and their families and loved ones. My ex and her daughters go there often.

I'm 3 blocks away at work and we are not allowed to go anywhere. We are in lockdown in our office.

I am finding this deeply disturbing

That is awesomely zen of you.

I'm not jumping to conclusions or yelling for the hanging of any particular religion group. I'm still not convinced this isn't a false flag operation.

I just arrived home after leaving work nearly 3 hours ago but I'm fine and thanks to those who messaged me to make sure I was ok. It's times like these I know who my real friends are. I just ran into Bryan Fletcher at my local shops so that was a bright spot in a horrible day for our lovely city when we are trying to be hospitable hosts for visitors in the festive season. Still don't know if we are going back to work or not yet tomorrow at this stage.

Only heard it happening when some customers mentioned it to me at work and I thought of you straight away but thought it would be chaos happening so didn't message you straight away as I knew you would be ok, its funny, I was talking the manager of the George St shop near the Coles at about 9.30 am and there was no mention from him of anything happening but later in the day they closed the shop.

Did anyone see the guy on the news in the Roosters cap being interviewed, seemed that he ran into the gunman in Macquarie st before the incident if his story was correct.

I wonder if that is the guy who begs for employment in Martin Place. He's always walking around with his Roosters gear on holding up a sign saying he will work for food. I give him blocks of chocolate from time to time..

Unfortunate but the Australian people have become soft and obsessed with drama and media hype. Why is it people are bemused or entertain such thing?

I've been slightly bored by the whole thing all day. It's clearly just some sad prick who let things get way out of hand. It's no Isis/Isil death cultist.
