  • Turntables that can burn to CD

I have a treasured record collection that I still play when I'm in the mood on my record player (both albumns and singles). Especially when I was at home last week and discovered that the CD player on my stereo had given up the ghost!

So the record player was put to good use - Sherbert, ELO and Moving Pictures anyone? (just for starters)

So I'm now looking to purchase a new stereo and also a turntable.

I have heard there are stand alone turntables that can burn records to CDs. Does anyone own one or have any info on one? Over time I'd like to convert the old treasures onto CDs.

I'd rather not involve my computer as it's upstairs and the stereo will be downstairs. And as you some of you may recall, I'm not all that tech savvy.

Having said that, I seem to have currently mastered co-ordinating between my TV, Foxtel IQ2 box and new DVD recorder/HDMI hard drive.

Any info on a turntable would be greatly appreciated.

I saw a few different ones at JB HiFi...and you can record then copy to a cd...I think they take a memory card and then you plug it into your pc and copy that onto your cd...a mate of mine has one and has now copied close to 300 of his albums onto cd's...you can get a cheap turntable without recording but the better ones do the lot...apparently it's real easy to do as well...

Thanks Foggy, that sounds similar to the turntable I'm after. There's a JB HiFi at my local shopping centre so I might have a bit of a wander through there over the Easter long weekend. Check out the stereos while I'm there as well. Nothing too fancy, just so long as has CD player that can shuffle a few CDs at a time.

Won't be making the purchases until May, when I'm due for a bonus from my employer for somehow lasting 20 years in the place. May as well spend it on something I'll get plenty of enjoyment out of.

      Cheers

If you already have a stereo system you should be able to plug in the turntable straight into it...

I need a new stereo as well as the CD player on mine has packed it in. Can't complain, it's lasted well over 10 years. It was one of the few at the time that had a turntable included, they were very much out of favour back then. Of course now, they're back in vogue

Maybe cassette decks (or the ghetto blaster ) will come back into vogue too.

Then you can "burn" all your records onto TDK 90 min blank cassettes.

I would suggest that you look through some relevant forums before purchasing the turntable:

                  http://www.911cd.net/forums/

                  http://forums.afterdawn.com/

Just searching the forums will give you a better idea of what is required, how hard it is etc.

                  Good luck
