It is just another small piece chiselled off the way society is these days. I am no prude and I swear with the best of em. I even tell my son that if he is going swear (as I am sure he will - he is 12) that he needs to take into account who will hear it. He needs to show some respect towards those that might be offended. I hear a LOT of people on trains not giving a toss about those within ear shot.

By letting this guy get off scott free can you see any other person calling a copper a prick? Surely not, that would not happen.

I don't if the copper that pulled this guy was a big head, you need to tailor your responses and behaviour accordingly to the situation. They do a difficult job and would be at the end of an abusive piss head every night of the week but somehow it is always their fault.

Not sure how you managed to combine "arrogant" and "treat you right".

This is not a third world country or a nanny state where we should be afraid of police. We are equals. If they want respect, they can show some respect.

Slightly o/t but i was on the bus the other day and this young girl was on her mobile telling the person on the other end what a good root her boyfriend was with all the gory details about what they do when they have sex, then she mentioned that they were setting a meeting place where a group of them were going to have sex together,i am no prude but that was totally inappropriate thing to here on the bus,it wasn't as if she was whispering it either, she was talking at the top of her voice.

Mate it goes a bit deeper than being called names, it's about perception of the police. Decisions like that make the police look weaker, which makes the job a lot more harder.

Let's bring back the good old days where police would randomly arrest people to maintain the perception that nobody would get away with serious crime.

Talk to anyone in law enforcement and ask them which period was the most effective in tackling crime ?

Actually, speak to anyone in your local community that has been there for a long period of time. Ask them which they would prefer.

Civil liberties nutters have ****ed over our police force on the back of statements like the one you produced. A minority has quickly turned into the majority in the public's eye.

My favourite one was when we dropped the 'Force' from the title to make Police look more community friendly. All while, the criminals lined their pockets and laughed.

There is no easy answer to law enforcement. If you go too far right or too far left you end up with oppression either by the law or by anarchy.

If you focus on minor issues like this "prick" incident, or dropping the name "force" you lose sight that NSW has moved further to the right off the back of stiffer penalties for everything. We are a nanny state. You can't even drive a car safely anymore because you have to keep your eyes on the speedo instead of the road ahead of you.

Speed kills, that's why you have to drive to the specified limit.

You don't seem to have a very decent opinion of Police officers, so if anything ever happens to you, your house, your belongings...........don't ring the "pricks" for help then.

The smart arse student should been given a hefty fine.

Not focusing on the road ahead of you kills as well. Maybe you should try a test and see if it is safer to keep your eyes focused on the speedo and not worry about the road ahead of you, or focus on the road ahead of you an not worry about whether you are marginally speeding.

You wouldn't have a clue about my opinion of police. Keep your ignorant personal attacks out if it.

The issue here is whether a person is allowed to call a police officer a "prick", or whether the word "prick" itself should be outlawed. Many people unhappy with this outcome have used far worse than "prick" publicly, even on this forum being read by minors.

So are you a bunch of hypocrites? or do you want some sort of double-standard where police have to be shown more respect than the general public?

You don't have to stare at a speedo to do the speed limit for ****s sake, a glimpse is more than sufficent. If not, get your eyes checked.

You'll find a decent percentage of the public treat the Police like crap. It's no wonder they're sick of dealing with smart arsed little punks, that they believe they know their rights, and exercise them with complete arrogance.

I've met more disrespectful members of the public, in ratio, to disrespectful cops.

Not all cops are pricks, some are vaginas.

In fact would the offender have been charged if he called a cop a merkin or pussy or ****???

Its important questions like these that require answering.

I have reported you to the pricks.

Whether you look or glimpse is besides the point. We are being forced to take our eyes off the road. Do you look at the speedo for safety reasons? or do you look to avoid punishment in our nanny state?
