We were better off before we had tweedle dee and tweedle dumber fighting over the captaincy....and their predecessor KRudd.....

To keep this great country great we need leaders who have half a clue at least......

I know I would be a damn sight happier if I didnt have to witness the elderly dying in hospital corridors or people needing surgery having to wait longer than 12 months for it because of the extraordinary amount they want to charge for private health care....or that one of these wankers wants to take funding away from mens prostate cancer testing and research....

So in saying, yes we are better off than some countries, but if we are the Lucky Country, how come I feel damn gipped to have these geeks incharge....

Maybe I'm lucky I have never witnessed anyone die in a hospital corridor but since you have witnessed it it must have been very distressing. What hospital was that at. The surgery you're talking of is that life threatening or elective. I know realtives who have had surgery as required going through emergency because it was needed immediately but for elective you must wait. Since you voided you vote you really have forgone your right to criticise.

You didn't say what hospital you witnessed the death at. Maybe that was a little gloss for the story? Those people are only idiots by your estimation. Many would think that name applied to you for forgoing the right to vote that your female ancestors fought so hard for.

I have proudly voted since the day I turned 18 and enrolled to vote....I was even excited about it....But as I stated I refuse to have a hand in electing inept morons into the role, that is entirely on all of your heads....

I know I am not alone, and that is just on this forum, but I am the only one admitting to it...I am not ashamed to admit I got my name crossed off, but I would be very ashamed of myself if I voted for someone I have no faith in.....

As for the hospital.....I did not witness it first hand, so I am only commenting second hand, and therefore the name is not relevant, but I do believe those who told me...and I do know of at least 3 people that have spent more than 24 hours in emergency corridors awaiting a bed while terminally ill.....that in itself is a travesty....and one such on a gurney no bigger than those in an ambulance....

"Australia is a lucky country, run by second-rate people who share its luck", was a phrase in a book written by Donald Horne in 1964. He wrote it after Britain and then the U.S. had told us to forgo being involved in the design and building of rockets and other technologies in the 50s. Which we were at the forefront of.

It's that same mentality that had us following Ross Garnaut's idea of deregulating the textiles industry in the 1980s (thanks Bob Hawke, you closet Socialist.) And remember, this is the same Garnaut that suggested the complete reformation of Australia's economic system because of the ManBearPig known as Hetrogenic Climate Change.

We may be the lucky country but we are usually electing aments to parliament.

I think it is awful that our hospitals are overcrowded at times and there are not enough beds. What annoys me is we have been paying a 30% rebate to people who take up private health insurance, How that works is that the shareholders of the health funds get a dividend if the company makes a profit.

What I would like to see is that form of business welfare stopped and the 30% rebate directed straight to direct health care.

All of the health professionals I know who work in the public sector are committed professionals who have paid for their own education and try to deliver the best possible care to those who need it.

Neglect of public health has been going on since the Greiner government in NSW who convinced the public that the world of user pays government services is the way to go.

We should take responsibility for quality services ourselves through our addiction to tax cuts and acceptance of poor quality services... until we or a member of our family need it... Then we start to complain.

Do not get me wrong, the nurses and doctors in hospitals do their very best with the resources they have available.......They are in the front line of all the cutbacks and have to deal with the sick and families of these people on an everyday basis and without them and their dedication it would be a whole lot worse.....
