Thanks for the good thoughts Horrie & SteveJ.......she loves the special biccys but hates the bland chicken wet food so put a few of the biccys into it this morning and some of wet food stuck to biccys so she ate a bit. Rang vet & he suggested mix a spoonful of new food with spoonful of normal chicken food and then gradually increase the new & decrease the old variety. We shall see if that works! Also he said would do the other cat no harm if he ate either the biccys or the wet food as he's 16 yrs old.

A few days in Sydney may be back on the agenda in May........ vet bill took a lot of $$$$ from bank account so KL put off until later in year. Will keep you informed.

    • Good luck with your cat Wicked Angel.

Maestro, the cat before my current one had failure of the kidneys which lead to him nearly dying and spending 5 days at the vets - very expensive unexpected expense, esp as I'd just returned from hols.

Whilst he would tolerate the special biscuits, I didn't even bother with the special wet food as the fussy bugger would only eat Dine and only certain varieties of Dine. They did give me a satchet or two to trial - he'd do nothing more than sniff it and walk away.

Unfortunately he developed a tumour a few months after the kidney failure and I had him put down to spare him any further pain and suffering.

My current moggie, Onslow the Devil Cat, is also one for running around in the middle of the night yeowlling if I manage to get him in from outside. Not to mention that he's ruined my blinds by flinging them aside to run up and down the window ledge.

He got into a huge catfight last night which had the neighbours fearing for his life but as usual he returned home unscathed and looking for food, which he wasn't getting.

I didn't bother going to the dentist for about 10 years so the last visit cost me around $4,000 with the work i had to get done, have to admit my teeth feel great now and i'm definately will be having regular check ups all the time now.
Now it's time to get my eyes checked,i'm finding it hard to read small print at times especially the tickets at work.Old age is such fun

Thanks a lot NC. Am mixing small quantity of the new with slightly larger quantity of the old & Miss Murphy is eating that.....over a couple of weeks will increase the new quantity.

Luv the name Onslow the Devil Cat! He seems appropriately named with the chaos he's creating. LOL!

Sounds like your ready to die Horrie !!!

Kiddies....it's easy. Brush, floss, and gargle, and you won't have to worry about smelly breath and teeth falling out.

As for your eyes.....luck of the draw.

Far off ready to die Holmes, actually the dentist said my teeth were pretty good considering i left it 10-12 years to go to the dentist, the major part of the bill was getting a crown but there was also a bit of minor damage to fix up.Still thought i was young and invincible but as you get older you realise you have to put a bit of extra work into looking after yourself.

As for the eyes,i have been putting off seeing an optometrist,i have noticed subtle difference in what i can read over the last 18 months so it is time to do something about it,besides i think i will look good with glasses

the only reason why i went to the dentist was because i tried to chew on one of those life saver lollies and it cracked my tooth.

The dentist was saying it will cost 3 grand and 6 - 7 visits for a root canal and crown with no guarantee the tooth could be saved or $300 for a tooth extraction..............i just told him to yank it out

Similar experience to yours - I went because I felt an 'absess' on a tooth. Turns out it had a raging infection under the gum and I needed root canal therapy and a crown.

No sooner had I recovered from that expense than one of my front tooth chipped - the expense of a porcellain crown for that one.

And then another one chipped when I was eating fruit - you guessed it, another crown!

I could have had an O/S holiday with my dental bills the past few years.

As you say Horrie, the older you get, the more problematic your teeth become.

Nowdays I get a checkup every six months, which are free under my private health cover. And touch wood, no problems at the moment.

As for my eyes, they've been stuffed since I was 20. Worn contacts for years now. Nowadays they have the ones you can wear continuously for 30 days (or in my case, maybe 40 or 50 cause I forget to replace them.)

If you only knew how many times I've threatened the bugger with return to the RSPCA for exchange for a better behaved moggie.

He's certainly smart though - I told him last night that if he came back from outside before I went to bed (so I could lock him in) I'd give him a treat ball. Sure enough, just before I was retiring he turned up and smooched up to me as if to say "Well I'm back - where's my reward". Treat ball duly enjoyed.
