They used to give everyone a ruler and pencil and occasionally (if you were lucky) one of those money boxes.
Speaking of money boxes ...what about the Coffin moneybox ....the hand used to come out of the coffin and take the coin !

i remember growing up in paddington in winter the coakman came round selling coak for the fireplace, the rabbito sold fresh skinned bunnies, the clothesline man sold treebranches with a fork for the clothesline, a shillings worth of mixed lollies was enormous! ten shillinbgs was a kings ransom, old oxford pictures was still on, you could use an american one cent coin instead of sixpense in archies pin ball machines! the scg and sports ground opened their gates at half time so i got in free for the second half! when you went to the movies there were cartoons or a newsreel on first instead of ads! and you got dressed up. our phone number in paddington was fa1341Last edited by stephenj; 09-16-2010, 09:02 PM.

I remember being a little girl sitting on my Nanna's knee and helping her sew on her treadle sewing machine. Wonder what she would make of the new computerised ones today?
Also remember my Mum wearing gloves and a hat whenever she went to church, CWA meetings, local agricultural show.Last edited by WickedAngel; 09-17-2010, 08:38 AM.Don't be afraid to step out in the rain. Take a chance. Sometimes the only way to get your rainbow is by getting wet.
